@Captain Davis How do you think Southerners would respond to a Democratic candidate that vocally supported the re-secession of the former confederacy? As in if Joe Biden ran on a platform of "i won't stand in your way if you want to secede."
It's not realistic but it's hard not to daydream of how awesome it would be to not have those shit states in the country holding it back with constant mooching and electoral sabotage.
I think we are heading on that track. I envision Trump winning election night all the states he did before except losing Arizona and picking up Minnesota. Republicans saying election night results are what matters, and a crisis evolves. Trump wins electoral college but losses popular vote, again and additional ballots are stopped. Then the electoral college and Republicans manage to change it and Trump is awarded the election win and sworn in. I expect Dems to win the House by a few more seats or 10 or so.
So we will have a divided government again, and Trump and GOP to redistrict to their advantage. Calls of rigging by the right, and calls by the left or voter suppression of mail in ballots or whatever shaddy stuff Barrs DOJ may do on election night.
I imagine the calls for secession will reign louder if this happens. And to be honest I dont see how this doesnt happen. The GOP had the chance to remove Trump and they didnt, I expect the Senate Republicans to lose Arizona and maybe Maine but pick up Alabama, Minnesota and Michigan. For 55 seats. They and the state legislatures will support Trumps call on electoral college changes in swing states or whatever.
That Atlantic article is likely a prophetic vision. I didnt know the GOP has those tools in their arsenal.
