The Census Bureau is expected to roll out California’s latest official headcount soon, and the Golden State could lose a congressional seat for the first time in its history due to a steep decline in population growth.

Over the past decade, the annual population growth rate has slipped to 0.06%, lower than at any time since at least 1900. California would drop from 53 to 52 House seats - still more than any other state - and would in turn lose electoral votes in the presidential election.

Meanwhile, states like Texas and Florida are growing their populations and political clout. Texas is expected to gain as many as three seats, according to an Election Data Services analysis, and Florida two. Arizona and Colorado could also gain seats.

If California manages to hold onto all 53 House seats, it could be thanks to the work of the $200 million state leaders spent on census outreach, trying to count as many residents as possible to qualify for a proportional amount of federal funding.

California's fleeing residents often cite A skyrocketing cost of living, high taxes and sprawling wildfires as their motivation to move.

But recently, some residents have become fed up with Gov. Gavin Newsom's handling of the coronavirus pandemic and persistent school closures. Newsom is facing an all-but-certain recall race, likely in the fall.

California is the only western state expected to lose a House seat, according to an Election Data Services projection obtained by Mercury News. Nine other states stand to lose a seat, mostly in the northeast and midwest.

It’s going to get worse. CA is at a tipping point. If big tech and the few large companies left grow tired of the never ending tax increases and cost of doing business, it’s over.

Retail is struggling like never before after the pandemic and the CA government has worked hard to kill small businesses.

Just look at all the millionaire athletes that fled CA. It’s even to the point many current young superstars are choosing less gross dollars to play elsewhere due to taxes and COL.

Heard on NPR that Oregon is getting another seat in Congress. But, they have until July to decide where to create the new district.

I assume that if they turn another series of Portland suburbs into the new district, the balance of power within Congress will stay the same.

Sure, Congress will lose a Democrat seat from California. But, the new seat from Oregon will certainly be Democrat as well.

California libtards leave this state and then infect the rest of the country with their evil. Jimmy Kimmel hates white people but chooses to live in Idaho.

Big tech leaving CA would help with the current cost of living.

The major issue though those Californians will spread to other areas now, whereas before they were contained to ruining Cali. It may work out though since these people will now see what late stage liberalism leads to, and they will possibly see the error in their ways. It's wishful thinking, I know, but people fleeing their city to relocate might finally 'get it' in terms of understanding those policies they wanted destroyed their original home.

With that being said, the less voting power Cali has the better, they are a dangerous state with all those electorals and they have proven they can't be trusted in handling illegals.

Imagine how many they'd lose if they didn't count illegals in the census.

Imagine how the gop would cease to exist if they weren't constantly trying to purge voter rolls and we're actually honest about their platform.

Big tech leaving would take the tax dollars with them which would cause a chain reaction that would dwarf the little dip in the surrounding areas

It would lower the demand for housing as less people would be moving to these urban centers for work. The tech companies would build urban centers in other states which would further liberalize those areas.

unfortunately, those cancerous morons are spreading into other states and voting for the same policies they ran away from. More proof libs have no sense and are stupid self defeating and self loathing creatures.

Looking to gentrify the intellectually impoverished in shittier cheaper areas is a bad thing?

The intellectually impoverished are also economically impoverished and would get priced out of the newly gentrified areas.
