I learned a ton of these from various positions and have a tournament coming up. Are these allowed in tournaments?

What style? What tournament? What division? Gi or no-gi?

Unless they've got bizarre custom rules, no calf crank or any lower body submissions of any kind for you.

According to the tournament rules, straight ankles are permitted and it doesn't specifically mention any other cranks, except neck cranks.

Usually for WHITE BELT BJJ tournaments, the only lower body submission they would allow is an ankle lock, so I'm pretty sure calf cranks/crushers arn't allowed

what are calf cranks can someone give me a link to see what it is please

i'm pretty sure muscle locks are off limits to white belts.

i love muscle locks. i get a lot of subs off of muscle locks. people don't look for them so it can be easier to catch them by surprise.

so calf cranks are putting preasure on the calf muscle not bone

the muscle or the joint. the muscle is very painful and damaging. i belive de la riva lost a bicep to a muscle lock.
as far as the joint goes it is like putting a rock in a door fram (hinge side) and closing the door. it would pry the hinges off. you are applying that same separating pressure to the knee, or elbow.

a good calf crank is get half guard with your leg across his leg at the knee. come out the back and pick his ankle. pull his ankle towards his ass with your leg behind his knee.

You can get that from half guard, turtle, turtle back, etc...

really ? what do you mean "lost a bicep" ?? I didn't even know you could lose a muscle like that.

I was in BJJ class the other day and I got side control on this guy I was rolling with and went for an armbar. His arm slipped out of my grip and before he could recover I wrapped my bicep around his foot and went for an achilles lock. The guy was just about to tap, when my instructor came over and said 'no foot locks for white belts'. I was pissed. Is there an unwritten rule that white belts cant go for foot/knee/calf submissions?

I personally believe that all locks are open game. I do have to admitt that there are some people who when they begin to roll do not have the control necessary to apply ankle locks. These people should be talked to.

You'd also be pissed if you rolled with a purple belt and he heel hooked you and tore your ACL before you could tap.

Lower body submissions are prohibitted for white belts for safety reasons. It's a lot easier to tear things down there
