A post from Caio on his facebook fan page about an hour ago:

I have competed many times in my life sick/hurt.

But as many know, yesterday I went to the No-Gi Worlds having trained for less than a week (I trained for less than 60 days out of this entire YEAR of 2011) because I was totally destroyed from injuries.
A torn ACL (knee), a ripped traps, dislocated collar bone, some serious damage on one of my AC joints (shoulder), a hurting wrist, both of my palms cut and bleeding and the worse, big lower back problems.
Yes, I didnt train and didnt have one of my shoulders, besides having a bad neck. One of my knees and my back giving up all the time. One wrist hurting and my hands could barely make a grip.

Now, who would compete injured like that? Do you know of anyone?

I think I don't need to prove anything about myself anymore. What I wanted to show is that even though any man can be beaten, technique should ALWAYS be the deciding factor in a match.
DEVELOP YOUR TECHNIQUE BECAUSE YOUR BODY AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES WON'T BE THERE FOREVER.

I will hopefully see you at the 2012 Worlds. Time to get fixed.

Anyways... =)
"And your 2011 Black Belt light-feather No-Gi World Champion and the ONLY person 4 times No-Gi World Champion... Caio Terra"

Is it just me, or is this guy amazing? He weighs something like 56kg and is winning golds on the world stage in absolute. I don't understand why he isn't talked about alongside the likes of Marcelo Garcia and Roger Gracie; am I missing something? He is such an inspiration. In my opinion, he is what BJJ is all about.

He only has to win like 2 matches to be the NOGI World Champ. And while his opponents are good, Caio is better.

I dont think that means he's the best p4p, personally...

Caio is awesome. But he isn't even the best (arguably) in his weight class in the gi.

He needs to win many more world championships to be compared to them.

they mentioned on the broadcast that caio had holes in his hands from doing pullups for 15 mins straight. said his S&C guy told him to keep going when he complained of his hands hurting.

Time to find a new S&C guy

Since when is the Las Vegas Open world stage? That competition is a ghost town.

Caio will be one of the best in the world someday, he's still young and paying his dues though. He's definitely not the same level as Guys like Cobrinha and Mendes yet, but I think he will eventually achieve that level of greatness.

Maybe if he took steroids he'd be carrying less injuries. ^_-

(Sorry, had to!)

caio will definitely go down as one of the greatest, but his main problem in being mentioned with those names is that he has a rival in his own category, while marcelo and roger pretty much destroy everyone without much hustle.

Seriously, whatever he's doing, with that injury list, I'd like to do the opposite please.

I'm not sure what world absolute TS is referring to but Caio did win the absolute at US nationals

I have to say that alongside how awesome Caio is, Bruno gets a staggeringly small amount of love, probably because he's not exactly the most visible of fighters (no pun intended). I mean, he beat Bruno Frazzato in Abu Dhabi. @_@ That's a multiple time world medallist two weights above the one he competes at. That's serious business.

i feel like the smaller guys get less recognition such as bruno malfacine, felipe costa, and of course caio

I am not sure how well Bruno speaks English either. Personality and showmanship play into the "love" factor. Caio is very outspoken and motivated to put his name on the map. Bruno is only recognized by people who are in the know. I think Caio is lucky to have Bruno as a nemesis...
