A pivotal heavyweight clash between former UFC champion Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne is currently targeted for this summer's UFC 200 landmark event, according to UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani, who reported the news on Wednesday evening.

Velasquez (13-2) has been out of action since his shocking third-round submission loss to current titleholder Fabricio Werdum in the main event of UFC 188 last June. He was scheduled to rematch the Brazilian and attempt to regain his UFC belt earlier this year, but fell out of the matchup with an injury. The oft-injured Velasquez has fought just 6 times in the last 5 years.

Browne (18-3-1), once considered a rising star in the heavyweight division, recently got back into the winning column with a controversial TKO win over Matt Mitrione at UFC Fight Night 81 this past January. Prior to that, he was upset by top contender Andrei Arlovski by devastating fashion in a Fight of the Year contender in early 2015. "Hapa" also has a loss to Werdum on his record; he lost by decision in 2014 in a No. 1 contender's matchup.

UFC 200 takes place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 9. No other fights have been confirmed for the card.

I don't believe it.
Same. Sorry but I will only believe it when I actually see Cain at the weigh ins there. He pulls out more times than he actually fights.

Better book him on the undercard so nobody will care if he pulls out.

i swear, if cain pulls out, the ufc should release him or he should retire.

Please don't get injured Cain!

it'll be funny - sherdoggers desperate for likes will high five each other with condescending comments about his injuries - if he wins, people will immediately drop to their knees - if he loses, it will be like he was never good, like he was a joke his whole career

big fight for him

If it happens it will be fun. But I don't see either holding the belt. Cain is too injury prone and Browne doesn't seem to have that X factor that pushes him into the elite of the division. Hopefully Browne wins just for the fact that he isn't likely to have injuries to sideline him from bigger fights.

If Cain makes it to the fight I have a feeling its gonna be a bad night for Browne

i wont believe in cain actually fighting until he is done with the weigh-in.
fooled us way too many times.

Cool fight (if it happens), not exactly a gimme fight for Cain but it's still a fight he should win convincingly.

I have no idea who wins this. Browne can finish Barnett but then gets pimp slapped and finished by Andre. Cain, with the inactivity as well as the beating he took physically and mentally the last time we saw him, doesn't exactly instill confidence. I'd take Cain but I really don't know which fighter shows up that evening.

I have absolutely no idea why they are placing Cain on one of the biggest cards of the year!!! You can't count on him for anything.

If the UFC is smart, they better have a replacement who is training and is on standby to fill in when Cain gets hurt again.

I really want to see travis get the shit kicked outta him.

Tough call. I would be alright with a double KO haha.

I am somewhat ready for Cain to just go away though. Tired of him being around and in conversation all the time but never fighting.

He's not evil like that travis browne.

But I want Vs JDS 4...

In what way would Browne cheat to win? Elbows to the back of his head while hes going for the double
