This is possibly the most compelling matchup available in the current heavyweight division along with Dos Santos vs Overeem. Wedum has certainly done enough to be brought up about in contention talk. Both guys are very competent on the feet, and it would be interesting to see what Fabricio could do from his guard. I'd take Cain in this fight because Werdum doesn't have the cardio to keep up, but at least on the ground it's anyone's fight.

Yeah, I think Cain ought to fight Werdum at some point.

if cain beats reem we will see cain werdum

maybe nye 2014?

Honestly have no idea how this fight would end up looking like. Werdum's ground game is amazing and I have no doubt that he could sub Cain. But I don't think I'd ever bet against Cain.

If Werdum can regain the lineal belt [the TRUE hw championship title] from Overeem, and unify it with the ufc belt from Cain, then he is the true HW GOAT.

Dana would probably be apprehensive if setting up such a fight. If Cain establishes himself as being better on feet early, this could become one of the worst title fights of all time.

A few years back, Werdum fought Sergei in Pride. Sergei was much better on the fight, and the fight was 20 minutes if Werdum getting jabbed in the face, then flopping into the ground.

When Werdum vs Overeem was about to go down, I knew it had the potential of being an absolutely awful fight, and it was. If Cain establishes himself as being much better on the feet (which he could very well do), and Cain fears going to the mat with Werdum (which he should), we could get an absolute snoozer of a fight.

All depends on the stand up. Werdum cant take Cain down and there is no way in hell Velasquez is going to grapple with Werdum.

Yup. You couldn't pay me to watch werdum's fights with kharitonov or overeem again.

This.
And I think they could put on a good standup battle.
Werdum's standup has come on leaps and bounds, even at the cost of some of his BJJ (not that that matters considering how far ahead it is).
He said himself he wants to KO or be KO'ed.
Would love to see this fight. WAR Werdum.

Still, we ought to give some credit to Werdum's steadily improving Muay Thai. Let's not forget despite how awful that fight was he outstruck Overeem on the feet, and probably only lost the decision because of his awful strategy of pulling guard every time Overeem as much as sneezed at him.

I would take Velasquez's wrestling, top game, and ground and pound over Werdum's bottom game and submissions.

Stop with your fantasy lineal garbage. most annoying thing I see MMA fans post about

He has gotten much better and is a phenomenal fighter. But if the styles don't match up well it can produce a terrible fight. DW would lose years off his life if Werdum did the se thing again in a title fight haha

To BE the man, you gotta BEAT the man!! WOOOO!!!!

Agreed.
A really compelling matchup. Let's hope it happens in 2013.

I think you are absolutely right TS. Werdum has a pretty good chin as well and his standup is looking fierce as of late. Plus, I don't think Werdum has any problem with Cain taking him down, he actually prefers it in my opinion. I could see a triangle slapped on Cain within a round if he's going to go to the ground with Fabricio.

Definitely by interested in seeing what Cains gameplan would be against a guy like Werdum. I think Cain would come out on top and probably only hit the ground for the Gnp finish, or it could end up like Overeem v Werdum. Another fight I wouldn't mind seeing would be Big Country v Velasquez I'm sure that would be a hell of a fight.

I'd favor Werdum.

Cain wouldn't take him down, and if he decided to move forward all the time he would become vulnerable to takedowns.

So Cain would be deprived of his wrestling and his strategy to put pressure on his opponents. The UFC knew that and that's why they set up Cain vs. Big Foot instead of Cain vs. Werdum.
