I've seen a bunch of posts saying this and it leaves me dumbfounded. He'd lose a kickboxing match to JDS, so how is he the better kickboxer?
Anyone who throws leg kicks and kicks in general has world class striking according to Joe Rogan. When Koscheck fought Pierce, Kos threw a lazy high kick and Joe was like "Oh God! AMAZING! Koscheck has such terrific kicks and he is so much better at striking than Mike Pierce is!"
He landed 1 good combo on Nog and this myth was born that Cain is a high level kickboxer. He has decent kickboxing and can outstrike a lot of heavyweights but he's not even close to JDS in terms of striking
It's really good. I don't remember seeing JDS ever throwing kicks. This isn't a kickboxing match so it doesn't matter if JDS might be better
Cain is a decent all-around kickboxer, that's fair to say. He may even be a better kicker, but he's not a better striker. JDS' footwork and hand speed will be the difference here.
Cain is a good kickboxer considering his background as a wrestler, that's about it. He's a little better and more varied than the usual wrassle-punchers that inhabit mma.
Cain is could be a more talented kickboxer than JDS. Doesn't mean he would beat him in kickboxing. JDS is more of a straight boxing kinda guy anyways. Still, nobody said he's better just by saying he's a good kickboxer -.-
I'd say Velasquez is a decent kickboxer considering he is from a wrestling background plus he is a heavyweight. He does seem to have fluid movement when he throws low kicks, which is essential for striking. However, undoubtedly he does not utilize head movement when he is exchanging in the pocket and his hands need some improvement defensively.
How is a fighter a more talented kickboxer if he would lose to the other guy in a kickboxing match? And yeah they did say that, otherwise I wouldn't have made this post.
Cain does some things quite well in the stand up. He's too aggressive and wide open in exchanges, though (and he is very eager to exchange).
