“We didn’t know how serious the injury was,” Parana said. “If we knew, I think we would have stopped it, but we only knew when we went to the hospital. She was in pain, she got hurt in the first exchange, and told me in between rounds that she hurt her knee but I told her to shut up. I was trying to make her stop thinking about that, but I had no idea how serious it was. If I knew it, I would have stopped it. We thought she would be able to fight all three rounds.”

“‘Pedrita’ is fearless, she would never quit. She never considered quitting. The world hasn’t seen the real ‘Pedrita’ fight. They saw an injured girl fighting the best pound-for-pound female fighter in MMA, Valentina Shevchenko. Maybe she would lose even if she was 100 percent, but the fight would be a bit better.”

Not the first time a corner did that.. Won't be the last.

Terrible corner, leave Yamasaki alone!

Coach is on point.

"Didn't know it was serious..."
"Best P4P female fighter..."
"Would still lose, but would be a little better..."

Keep up the good job!

i'll repeat the same thing here:

damn, that's tough. coaches are not infallible. and we want our coaches to push us. and often they push us knowing we're hurt, but not too hurt.

this coach knew she was hurt, but didn't know she was too hurt.

fine line. there is no answer here (other than 42 of course); just a lot of second guessing all around.

i wouldn't blame her for wanting a new coaching staff after this incorrect decision on the fly in the heat of the moment, but i also wouldn't blame her or be surprised if she didn't.

MMA team culture is shit when it comes to dealing with injuries and non-competitive fights.

In boxing, the corner would have told the ref that the fight was over as soon as the round ended.

Same trainer she referred to as a father figure?

That is two strikes against them. This.... and not throwing in the towel. That poor girl took a beating. Val went full Khabib A-Level ground and pound on her.

If you knew how bad it was? How is your fighter gonna tell you if you tell her to shut up after mentioning it? Ya tosser...

Yes.

”I’ll fight against any fighter in the world, no matter which position she is [in the ranking]. I’d fight Valentina 10 times more without thinking twice. Who chooses easy battles is not a real warrior. The treatment and intimacy that I have with my master, the ones from outside doesn’t know anything to criticize. This is not master and student, it’s father and daughter, and no one can say how he should treat me. And about throwing in the towel, this is PRVT and we’re the ones that know our limits. Throwing in the towel, never.

”Thank you for all the messages of love and support I’ve been receiving. I’m sure I’ve gotten a family for the rest of my life. And those who are criticizing, I don’t care, I’ll come back stronger. ‘A moment will not erase a history.’”

Best p4p female fighter, totally agree

I saw her wobble after the first exchange but thought she might have twisted her ankle, that fucking sucks... As for her corner, one wonders if "i hurt my knee" should have warranted "is it bad?" instead of "shut up!" given that it's not the same as "I have a cut" or evem my "finger hurts". Not saying those aren't serious but the potential for severity with knee is kinda bigger...
