Sorry if this has already been posted, but this is pretty interesting stuff. I hope that he's just trolling Askren (or trying to make himself feel better about a loss), because if it is true, isn't this punishable by the athletic commission?

Yeah, if true, Burkman's an idiot for saying it in the public domain.

Regardless of whether it's true or not, he needs a huge suspension.

You can't have fans not confident that fighters aren't throwing fights. It's devastating to your sport.

I'd give him 1 yr just for saying it, lifetime if evidence suggesting it's true is found

Interesting no action was taken against Burkman for saying that. But let's be honest, this is just a gimme fight for Lombard to get a finish so he can become a promotable #1 contender.

It could be he is joking and just rubbing it in on Ben.. Who in their right mind would say something like that in all seriousness?

Agreed sir, even if it was a joke, he should be fined or something...

Karakhanyan did the same....opps, it was a secret

I guess soon we will see Moraes and Gaethje do the same

Sean Salmon?

Good catch. For those unfamiliar, Sean Salmon (that guy that Rashad headkicked a while back) claimed he threw a fight (outside of UFC) to stay healthy enough for the next training camp:

http://www.mmaconvert.com/2009/09/04/sean-salmon-puts-foot-in-mouth-lands-in-hot-water-with-fans-and-commissions/

I couldn't find anything on whether the Ohio AC actually punished Mr. Salmon, but he's now retired with a 18-21 record (had a pretty rough road as described here: http://www.mmafighting.com/2014/2/17/5417572/where-are-they-now-sean-salmon).

Either he lost and doesn't deserve the fight he just got, or he is a danger to the legitimacy of the sport as a whole.. Not good options. I hope it's the first one, because everybody has off nights.

Pretty sure in an interview on the front page of sherdog he explained it was a joke to try and irk askren

Not the smartest joke to make

"From May 2010 to April 2013, Sean Salmon lost 11 straight fights."

Regarding the controversial fight, he essentially said his mind was not in it and he gave up too easily. Maybe that changed how he felt about subsequent fights.

Lol he's an even better troll than Ambien.

Good on Josh for rustling sour grapes's jimmies.

Thank You for the info - I did find it; here's the quote from the article (http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Jo...ter-Ben-Askren-Overblown-Twitter-Joke-75223):

" That Tweet was in response to Askren saying I got beat up by Steve Carl and saying I now I get the No. 3 fighter in the world. We all downplay our losses, I probably should have phrased it differently, so I think it was dry humor, sarcasm and people saw it and tried to make a story out of it. But the bottom line is I would never ever put myself in that position. It definitely got overblown "

I guess maybe I contributed to this situation getting "overblown", but at the same time, you can't really fault someone for taking Burkman's words (tweets?) at face value. A messy situation overall.

I guess nobody sees the ;) wink face at the end of the tweet. Not surprised.

I know Burkman is now saying it was all an overblown joke but even so you can't go around saying stuff like that. If people think you were willing to throw a fight to get into the UFC what would you be willing to do to stay there? In a sport that already is ripe for criticism you can't even open the door a crack on this issue.

I think Burkman is confused. Only Bellator releases it's reigning champions.

I didn't expect anything else from "The Paycheck Warrior".

Remember, this is the same guy who agreed to fight at lower than his usual rate to get on a specific WSOF card and allow the promotion to stay within their budget, and then went on social media to whine about breach of contract.

NO HESPEKT.
