Bumper Plates

I can't say that I have any experience with them or that I've even heard of them before, but personally, if I were going to get bumper plates, it'd be these. Shipping is included in their prices and the reviews on these bumpers say that they can really take a lot of abuse. They're not the prettiest, but definitely the best value.

If nobody here is able to provide you with more info on the ones you linked, you may want to do a search on Crossfit's forums. You should also find out how much it would cost to have them shipped.

thanks for the link man, yeah those hi-temps were featured in the selection video on the site i linked, they look like they'd do the job. i dont care as long as they don't get all warped and shit.

Anyone ever heard anything about these?
The Garage Gym Store - Inexpensive yet high-quality equipment!
240lb set for $359?

If you've got some free time and you like do-it-yourself projects, you might want to consider making "ghetto bumper plates" out of old car wheels. Basically, you get two complete wheel assemblies (hub, inner tube and tire), and bolt a 5 lb. Oly plate to each hub.

Some of the regulars have built 'em, I think there are some how-to threads.

The beauty of it is, you only need two ghetto bumpers and then you can use regular iron plates (alongside the ghetto bumpers) without fear of damaging them. And the whole shebang would probably cost less than $100.

I have been wondering about these as well. I found this site a few weeks ago while i was looking for bumpers online. they seem to be fairly good quality and inexpensive too. Those rogue bumpers dont look bad either though so looks like I have some decisions to make. I could also just maek some bumpers like Flak said. Any info would be great

+1 These are the only bumper plates I have ever used and they were used in my high school's gym back in the day. They held up well considering an entire school had been usin them.

wow i just went to see how much shipping would be from the garage gym store. It was $92 dollars for a pair of 45's to be shipped. I think im going to go with the rogue fitness bumpers because shipping for garage gym store is insane.

I'm probably doing something wrong but I'm getting free shipping for the Garage Gym store.

Yea I don't know. I just tried it again and got the same results. Maybe because im sick my brain isn't working right or something.

They won't warp. In fact, the Rogue 10s are some of the very few on the market that won't warp.

I made some of these myself and they work well. The only problem with them is that they aren't likely to be the correct height. If you're practicing cleans or snatches, you don't want to be using a bar that is an extra inch or two off the ground.

See above.

Also, you don't have to take my word for it on these bumpers. Check out the Crossfit's forum for more info. People there love them.

And from what I've read, they hold up to years of abuse in high school, college, and commercial gyms. So, if they can take that kind of abuse, one person is not likely to ever do any damage to them.

I tried too. If you put just a pair of 45s in your cart, it's $92 for shipping. But if you put the 240 lb set in your cart, it says "online delivery / no shipping".

I don't know wtf online delivery is. You may want to call and find out. If that price includes shipping and the plates are decent, you really can't go wrong.

Oh i see. I am sure it's super expensive for the set then. Thanks for clearing that up.

Black Bumper Plates (pounds) : Wright Exercise Equipment

Here is another website. The crossfit people talk very highly of wright rubber on their boards.

Alright I think I'm going to either get the wright or the rougue depending on how much shipping is for the wright.

I doubt it, but maybe you get free shipping with the whole set?

Doubtful but worth a 5 minute phone call.

Yea maybe I'll give them an email, but I am really only looking for some 45's. Thats why I'm thinking of going with the Wrights. Rogue is only free shipping for the sets, not the pairs.

I got 2 used pairs of 45's off craigslist for dirt cheap and 1 new pair from Pendlay's site which had free shipping and good prices. Would recommend checking out both.

Also, check out local colleges that might want to get rid of some old bumpers. If youre a student/alumnus they might be willing to help you out.

Pendlay and Rogue are basically the same thing. The Pendlay "Hi-Temp" bumpers were discontinued and are now "Rogue" bumpers.

If wouldn't mind having 55s instead of 45, here are some Hi-Temps for $139 shipped. It'll be hard to beat that.

Craigslist might keep you waiting for a long time. I check Craigslist regularly for weightlifting stuff, and I've never seen bumper plates. But, living in a different area might help, and you may get lucky.

Damn, I may buy these. That is one hell of a deal.

Yeah, $1.26/lb is pretty damn good.

The Rogue sets are $1.72/lb and are still a good deal.

2 sets of 55s and a set of 10s would only be $303 for 240 lbs. With the bar, that's 285 lbs, which is more than I'll be putting overhead anytime soon. Plus you could easily throw on 70 lbs of steel weights, taking you to 355. And anything between 175 (two 55s, two 10s, and the bar) and 265 (two pairs of 55s and the bar) I would THINK one would be okay to use steel for.
