I live in NY and my good friend owns a liquor store. They sell proper 12 at $35 a bottle and sell out constantly. They had issues keeping stock for about 4 months.

IMO it’s not as bad as people say. It taste like Jameson just a little more rough. It mixes fine but I wouldn’t drink it neat or on the rocks.
