i was just checking the pan am results and saw that bruno frazzato took first and rafa mendes took second, did they fight? Or was it gentlemans decision?

Agreement. MUFC, who has trained with the Mendes brothers suggested that the plan may be for Rafa, Gui, Ed, and Bruno to all compete at Featherweight and close all 4 of the major IBJJF events each year, with Rafa taking the Mundials and the others taking the other 3 events... Maybe he could explain whether that is a fact, theory, guess, suggestion, etc?

I hated to see the last 4 matches not even happen, and Ryan Hall was screwed in his match against Ed Ramos, but Atos was on fire yesterday. I'm not saying Ryan would've gotten that second hook in, but getting restarted in top half with 1 minute left effectively ended the match right there.

Claudio Calasans took the Gold by tapping Lucas leite in less than one minute with a damn wristlock from closed guard and Andre Galvao was on fire with 3 slick submissions to get to the finals, where he won Gold 2-0.

Not to hijack the thread, but as much as I love watching Rafa, Gui, Bruno, and Ramos, if they all keep competing at Pena, I'm gonna have to root for some loses simply from a fan's perspective.

This just looks crazy:

FEATHER

FIRST Bruno Frazzatto Atos JJ
SECOND Rafael Mendes Atos JJ
THIRD Eduardo Ramos Atos JJ
THIRD Guilherme Mendes Atos JJ

I thought Calasans was literally going to break Leite's hand off. That wristlock was fully on for about 30 seconds before he tapped.

yes, that is their plan, stated out loud. all 4 of them are going to fill the podium at every tournament they all enter. they want to totally close out that division every time.

The fan in me wants to see a complete and deliberate Atos invasion at lightweight. I think it would be awesome to see if Durinho and Calasans can cut back to Lightweight, and then have Rafa, Eduardo, Gui and Bruno all move up to Light as well. It might even break the Alliance 1-2 deadlock on lightweight. And heck, it would be awesome to watch.

i don't get it, why have 4 guys in a division?

didn't gui use to compete in a higher division?

isn't it fun to test yourself against the best?

also, stupid question i guess, but can't only 2 members from the same team be in a division (unless they use like some branch of the main school) or is that only in things like mundials?

really like to see rafa compete

i think if rafa and bruno fought ten times, rafa would win ten times

Gui used to go down in weight, and the cut killed him. He looks much more dominant at feather than light feather. He has a big frame, I'm not sure how he made light feather in the past.

Bruno used to go up in weight (just one year, actually), and he looked considerably smaller than everyone in his weight class. He still did exceptionally well, lost to Celsinho on advantages in the quarters (maybe it was ref's decision, Kenny would know). Celsinho got second overall.

Atos are smart. They register Rafael and the person they'd give the gold to as Atos Jiu Jitsu (alongside the rest of Atos team), and the other two as Atos JJ. Rafael should get to the final in every tournament, so he is like their safety when it comes to points. At Pans, Bruno Frazzato was registered as Atos Jiu Jitsu, and he was in the "final".

Marcelino Freitas probably didn't want to fly in for Pans just to leave for AD Pro in a few days.

Yeah they probably were trying to take it easy for the AD Pro

Yall some smart dumb cats. Think about Mundials.
Rafael has first seed. Mario Reis (despite being 0-4 against Frazatto) has a
corner because he's a world champion. Gui gets a corner cause he's a world champion. Who's left for the last spot? Frazatto? Canal? Freitas? Ramos?
Willing to bet it'll be the one with the best track record in recent IBJJF events. Go check the results for Europeans, Pans, Sulamericanos, etc

I always forget that Bruno isn't a world champ. So close, so many times...

I personally dislike the idea of not fighting. The sport will never grow if at every big tournament we never see the finals fights, or sometimes even semi finals. Kinda lame IMO.

OHHH. That makes sense. Ichanged Bruno and Rafael's team to Atos JJ to shorten it. On the actual results page, Bruno and Rafa had "Atos Jiu Jitsu" and Gui and Ed has "Atos JJ".

So they skate the rule by doing that? I see what they're trying to do, but once again, since I'll never compete at that level or at that weight, and it's my favorite division to watch, it does kind of suck seeing all 4 of the last matches not contested.

They can't do that at ADCC right? All the Abu Dhabi tourneys DQ you for closing brackets or doing a worked match, correct?

Well you are only supposed to have 2 athletes per division, which is why they changed their academy name on the registration...

If they meet at ADCC, they'll probably agree to split the prize money and put on a little exhibition match. That's what Gui and Rafa do at AD Pro.

Nope, adcc would kick everyone from that team at all weighs out of the competition if any two members worked a match. World pro gi seem more relaxed about it.

Harder to get all 4 in there in any case, Rafa gets an invite as defending champ, one of the others could win the brazil trials, I doubt the organizers would invite a 3rd or 4th player from the same team tho to avoid worked/demo matches (since you can't step aside)

Are there many Atos affiliated gyms in the US? Galvao has one right? Is that it?
