    Folks,

This is just as an update to any of you folks traveling to China (or living here in Asia), SHANGHAI BJJ just got a new resident jiu jitsu blackbelt from Brazil. He's now got his visa and will be stationed here in Shanghai for the next year.

He placed 3rd at the Mundials a couple years ago at Super Pesado (big guy) and has an excellent game. This speaks for itself, but he also has a ridiculous list of Brazilian domestic (and national) championships as well (see below). You can get a look at his skills in the video below. he's in the blue gi.

Anybody who makes their way to Shanghai for travel/business, feel free to stop by and train. It's more often the case that folks are here on business for a few months, but if you move out here, it's a very open and productive training environment. We definitely have the best stable of training partners in Shanghai and are still growing. Would love to have you guys come out. As a bigger guy (~200 lbs.) I'm really excited to learn and train with this guy.

Here are some more of his accomplishments....

I think (not 100% sure) that Tony Eduardo Lima will also be here in a little while and will be staying for a good bit. So, we will have gone from having no blackbelt for the last few months to having 2 world class blackbelts under our roof. It's very fortunate and will be great for the school and hopefully BJJ's development in China.

Well, we had Tony here on and off (visa issues and trips to Brazil are a huge hassle) since we were at our old location. We now have an amazing new location with great facilities, but Tony hasn't been over here since we made the move. However, we've been fortunate to have some great seminars by Alberto Crane, Leo Vieira, etc.

On a day to day basis Ryan and Stan (two high level purple belts - both very good with explanations and Stan speaks Chinese very well) have been teaching all the beginners, advanced and kids classes. That's obviously a big time expenditure and so they're really looking forward to having some blackbelts around so they can return to just handling the school operations and working toward improving their own games.

Should be great over the next year.

The more talent we get in China the better it will be for everybody. Having black belts is important but I think getting a good base of blues, purples and above is more important. Its those lower belts that generally bring up the skill level of the club in general.

I train in Beijing, the guys are getting tougher but it will take a long time for it to get to the level of Korea and Japan.
