Bruno: Bonecrusher Smith was the best puncher I ever faced

Both were very talented. Lewis weakness was his tentativeness, pawing with the jab. Coaches thought he was overthinking instead of just fighting.

Tyson didn't really have that many bad habits. He slowed down a bit when guys didn't go down but he kept his cool. And he won most rounds.

I think Tyson won something like 95% of his rounds with Rooney.
tyson had a quite a few bad habits like all fighters do. tyson greatest flaw defensively is his over reliance on slipping to the left (he rarely parried the jab) this worked well until his head movement slowed down a bit and he became more vulnerable.

Tyson had one bad habit on and off which is that he often threw lunging punches, chin up in the air, and the left hand dropped. He got away with it with his speed against mediocre fighters but that's suicide against a specialist counter puncher like Lennox Lewis. Watch when Lewis lured fighters in and then countered them. Lewis had a deceiving, tentative style of fighting which many confused with uncertainty, but it was his gift of counter punching and conserving energy.

just watched the bruno vs smith fight. some of the worst refereeing that i have ever seen. the absolute definition of a late stoppage.

In what world is Bonecrusher Smith a better puncher than Tyson and Lewis? All Smith did was stalling in that fight against Tyson. That's how much of a puncher he was... Talked a lot before the fight, did nothing of it in the ring. pussy.

Why do the boxers give such crazy answers in these Ring Magazine interviews?

Interesting that he feels Tyson (back then) was a better fighter overall than Lewis. I would not have expected that, although he was winning his fight against Lewis until the KO, so it makes sense from his perspective.

Smith did hit pretty hard and he did stall against Tyson. Not sure why both couldn't be true. As you point out later it's, like, Bruno's perspective.

Because he said prior to the fight that his power would tell the tale?

Well, it didn't. Which hardly means he didn't have any serious power. He just stalled.

Of course he stalled, what else would he do, prime iron mike was ironing fools out like popeye on spinach, Smith did well to last the 12.

punch him out, since he's a better puncher than Tyson according to Bruno

Everyone says the spinks fight was the clearest example of mike scaring an opponent

I call bullshit on that. The second Bruno fight, Frank is literally walking to the ring like he is about to face a firing squad. And as soon as Mike turned it on he crumbled
Bruno took a dive there obviou$ly

The question wasn't power, the question was best puncher

Power is somehow involved in punching prowess. And stalling doesn’t emphasize power nor punching prowess.

It is one of several parts

Yup. An important one. That’s why they say boxer-puncher and not puncher-puncher. Puncher is mostly about hitting hard.

Watch his fights. He had a lot of bad performances despite his immense talents
This is true. Lennox was certainly no Iron Mike in the confidence or firepower departments but overall he had the more consistent career.

Which he- although frankly it applies to both.

I think Lennox takes it 9/10 times. Too big, too much jab, and I can’t see him sleeping on mike like he did lesser fighters he

He said himself that Tyson was better when they were both young fighters and that he was a late bloomer. That's sort of an admission of defeat.

Which Lennox? He doesn't think he was in his prime as young

9/10 is a ridiculous statement.
