No disrespect to Maia he lay'ed and pray'ed an interesting fighter and it would have been more ideal if they paired him with a striker like Condit or just no lay and pray fighter.

I would like to see him against striker. He comes forward and exciting for the watching eye. His easily the most exciting fighter on the roster and it was no brainer pairing him with Maia who is TD and BJJ specialist on a high level and probably the best BJJ guy in the UFC like ever.

I really hope we get to see him vs Condit before either of them retire.

I agree TS like Ronda said defeat is a state of mind if you choose to be undefeated then you are undefeated.

So by that logic Lawler is pretty much the only loss which counts on Matt Brown's record?

And who are you again?

Hendricks counts he didn't LnP and don't even LnP that much he mixes up. But Maia is a different case

So fighters should only fight opponents with corresponding styles. A kickboxer like Brown should fight Condit, a grappler like Maia should stick to grapplers.

Good idea, we could call this sport something like MMA - mono martial arts or perhaps we just go by "Kickboxing" for the strikers and "BJJ" for the submission experts and "Wrestling" for those who love grappling but don't like submissions too much, also "Boxing" for strikers who hate kicks, knees and elbows... I think you are about to revolutionize MMA, TS!!

Or he should improve his ground game ..........

It makes no difference against Maia. Trying to improve your ground game against Maia is like trying to improve your swimming speed against a shark. You'll get eaten sooner or later.

So the loss doesn't count because you wanted him to fight someone else?

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Yeah completely agree, however a lot of his losses have been subs.

Man I've been watching the sport for awhile and I've seen plenty of lay and pray and i associate it with boring fights. But in all honesty to me that was an intense fight. Matt defended fucking awesome until ultimately being worn down by arguably the best Bjj guy in MMa. To each his own but that fight was intense all the way through to me. And I was rooting for Brown all the way.

Well, I guess they should turn it into a "No Contest" then. After all, it's YOU we're talking about.

WRONG.

Lay and pray means wrestle/takedown your opponent and hold them there and pray they don't stand you up and knock you out.

Maia took him down and constantly tried to submit him, which he succeeded in doing.

So much fail.

Thank you captain obvious. I know it's loss and legit loss but kinda given on before hand because Maia was going to do Maia. still a loss but he wasen't beaten beaten like beaten you know what I mean. It was a BJJ contest. Basically Maia forced a BJJ contest

Maia got into a position where he would literally kill Brown if he didn't let go. That's not laying on someone.

Maia submitted him.

As a Shogun fan, I am glad his loss to Sonnen does not count because Shogun is a striker.
