Gentleman,
Training on Thursday, I managed to create a baseline fracture of my thumb and tear my extensor tendon therein. This will leave me in a cast and off my regular training schedule for 4-5 weeks. Obviously can't deadlift, and cannot back squat currently due to the awkward casting. Can front squat (cross grip, not clean grip), Zercher squat and Zercher DL, and do unilateral upper body work.

Just wondering if anyone had any advice or similar experiences? Might be 4-5 weeks off from my normal training, but I'm intent on making use of it. I would like to see some nice increases on my front squat, and work on some upper body imbalances. Since I cannot train, I do plan on doing a good bit of cardio, and specifically am going to aim for some good gains in anareobic capacity. Also plan to continue with regular bag work. It is a strong hand injury, so I hope to to work on jab and lead hook speed, and lead hand/kick combos. Anything I am forgetting?

j/k. good luck on the zerchers. I've started doing them recently and I like them a lot. I felt the zercher DLs the day after and I only did them to begin the zercher squats. I plan on doing some more tomorrow. and they're great for me because my grip is very weak.

and btw I damaged both of my thumbs in an amateur boxing match in early December. The doctor said they were sprained but they didn't feel OK to use until about February. Even when I was doing RushFit I could feel some pain in them. I think that's partly why my grip is so bad. I honestly haven't gone back to bjj or boxing full time because they still feel like they are healing.

Hey bud, thanks for being such a downer...;)

I did lift today, and did primarily zercher squats, followed by some light front squats. The zerchers felt a lot better than I expected, and my working weight ending up being a good deal higher than I was thinking it would be. Will be attempting zercher DL's in a few days, to see how they feel.

i do not think you need to be told this but start light on them. also you lucky sob as soon as i started zerchers i was bruising horribly.

I didn't really want to say this but...I did put a collar on the bar for my work sets.

How'd it go Teddy?

I broke my thumb yesterday and have a cast. I'm gonna try the zercher later, I thought at a lower weight but faster and more reps, use the time to get my power up. I've been squatting a bit slow as the weights gone up.

Anyone else got any ideas?

I'm going to use my training partner for some prison style resistance work on upper body to try and keep things going.

I used a dip belt hanging off my neck for improvised good mornings. It's awkward at first and takes a lot of tweaking to find a comfortable setup but it kept my back worked in the meantime.

and you wanna do cardio in a cast? Being sweaty in a cast in the summer is a miserable experience.

Seems like a good time to get well acquainted with the Zercher squat

Oh, fuck, old belphegor13 posts. Burn them with fire !

Epic bump.

Back before you discovered capital letters. Those were the days.

When I twisted my thumb I was out for 6 fucking months. No muay thai, no grappling, and no weight lifting. It fucking sucked. Couldn't even open medicine packets for my patients. I took up jogging and biking. It was all I could do. Sorry to hear you're in the same boat.

Nooooooooooo.

I read I shouldn't get the cast sweaty as it'll weaken it. I'll give it a week. I heal quick. Might have to accept heavy is out for a month.

Tried zercher and didn't go above 50k squats cos of arm numbness etc. Will try a collar.

Gonna resistance band and wrist cuff as well.

Zerchers are like kicking a heavy bag. It hurts at first but you quickly adapt. If you stick with it for a few weeks you'll probably be able to load much more than 50kgs.
