Point of this? These injuries occurred because the fighters in question DIDN'T tap quickly enough when the hold was locked in on them -- the Palhares situation appears to be the exact opposite. Sylvia actually wanted to keep fighting after the ref stopped it on account of his arm pointing in weird directions.

This is totally it! I used to know a guy like him. He had two speeds, on and off. Once his brain has decided his next move, it takes a second for his brain to compute the ref is trying to stop the fight. He's the best example of someone that is slow.
