International Brexit Discussion v9: The Last Extension

It's simple, to understand what the UK wants

1. To be able to make their own trade deals and retain free access to the CU.
2. To make it's own rules and regs and retain free access to he SM.
3. To stop foreigners stealing their jobs but keep the ability to work and retire in the EU.
4. To control it's borders but have no border to the only EU country its has a land border with.
5. To not have unelected bureaucrats making their laws, as told by Nigel Farage, their elected bureaucrat for fishing in the EU. Did I mention they also want to keep their fish, which they don't eat and export 77% of to the EU ?

Oh and to pay nothing because " 2 Worlds Wars and 1 World Cup"

5) to not have unelected bureaucrats making their laws ....except the WTO of course

Corbyn does not have an anti-semtiism problem, Britain has a Zionist problem

Tony Blairs Labour party was full of Zionist extremists, who not only pushed for joining the wars but mass immigration.

So does this mean Pelosi is working for the interest of Northern Ireland instead of US citizens?

She's working for the interests of peace, and discouraging the violation of an international peace treaty (the Good Friday Agreement) by the other side of the FTA.

Oh you sweet summer children must be new to American politics :D

Polosi is first and foremost working for the interest of the Democratic party, and that means doing the opposite of whatever Trump wants to do.

Remember the U.S-Mexico-Canada trade agreement that was completed a long ago? Both Mexico and Canada's parliaments ready ratified it, but Pelosi still doesn't want to bring it to a floor vote yet, because too many people in her party think that would give Trump a "win".

Trump wants to strike a trade agreement with the U.K as soon as possible, and that means Pelosi must dig up whatever excuses she can to stop it, even if it has nothing to do with trade.

Sure, i'm certain that is part of it. But not compromising the Good Friday Agreement that, from what I understand, the United States had a large part in facilitating, is a reasonably bipartisan position, as far as these things go.

Operation Chaos: Whitehall’s secret no‑deal Brexit preparations leaked

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...s-secret-no-deal-brexit-plan-leaked-j6ntwvhll

Britain faces shortages of fuel, food and medicine, a three-month meltdown at its ports, a hard border with Ireland and rising costs in social care in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to an unprecedented leak of government documents that lay bare the gaps in contingency planning.

The documents, which set out the most likely aftershocks of a no-deal Brexit rather than worst-case scenarios, have emerged as the UK looks increasingly likely to crash out of the EU without a deal.

Compiled this month by the Cabinet Office under the codename Operation Yellowhammer, the dossier offers a rare glimpse into the covert planning being carried out by the government to avert a catastrophic collapse in the nation’s infrastructure.

● The government expects the return of a hard border in Ireland as current plans to avoid widespread checks will prove “unsustainable”; this may spark protests, road blockages and “direct action”

● Logjams caused by months of border delays could “affect fuel distribution”, potentially disrupting the fuel supply in London and the southeast of England

● Up to 85% of lorries using the main Channel crossings “may not be ready” for French customs and could face delays of up to 2 1/2 days

● Significant disruption at ports will last up to three months before the flow of traffic “improves” to 50-70% of the current rate

● Petrol import tariffs, which the government has set at 0%, will “inadvertently” lead to the closure of two oil refineries, 2,000 job losses, widespread strike action and disruptions to fuel availability

● Passenger delays at EU airports, St Pancras, Eurotunnel and Dover

● Medical supplies will “be vulnerable to severe extended delays” as three-quarters of the UK’s medicines enter the country via the main Channel crossings

● The availability of fresh food will be reduced and prices will rise. This could hit “vulnerable groups”

● Potential clashes between UK and European Economic Area fishing vessels amid predictions that 282 ships will sail in British waters illegally on Brexit day

● Protests across the UK, which may “require significant amounts of police resource

Kind of hard to claim a hard border will reignite violence when the place has been peaceful for 20+ years

Wow...I wonder how England avoided all those things before it was a member of the EU?

Honestly, while I'm sure there will be some additional cost and delays that thing reads like the beginning of a post apocalyptic novel.

With trade deals, something it will no longer have.

This is a British government document and it's the reality of a No Deal Brexit.

We dont here about Irish violence in the US anymore - just assumed all was well since the GFA.

Britian survived before sweeping trade deales with European countries. Imagine saying that the US would face those same issues if they nixed NAFTA (USMCA) - it fear mongering to get Britians to call for another vote and stay.

It never stopped its just not as frequent and now classed as murders rather than terrorist attacks.

Every deal they were part of since they joined the EEC/EU in 73, becomes null and void after Oct 31. It's not just trade deals with the EU, it's all their trade deals for the last 45 years, overnight.

The US is a single developed market of 300 million spread over a vast continent with loads of natural resources. In the case of NAFTA the US also had a load of deals with other nations that were still in force and leverage over the members of NAFTA.

The UK is basically in the opposite situation, leaving a single market of 600 million, no natural resources, a service based economy, no other trade deals, no leverage.

Not expecting the apocalypse but it isn't going to be pretty.

I guess one should expect that when terrorist activity is simply refered to as the "troubles".

We'll have to disagree on how much havoc losing the trade deals will cause.

Ah, sounds like a little slice of heaven. I hope the dummies who voted leave get EXACTLY what they voted for, and maybe it will teach the world a little lesson about casting completely uninformed ballots.

Just a little too late.

Well, before there was an EU, there was... no EU, and the UK wasn’t a pariah state trying to ply its (non existent) leverage against the rest of the continent.

There is a reason they joined in the first place.

This is a document which LEAKED. Whitehall is opposed to Brexit, so you can rest assured that this was a planned leak.

Whether it is true or not is orthogonal to its main purpose, which is to discourage Brexit.

By already having international agreements in place. Not sure if you knew that.

We are so reliant on 'just in time' delivery for food and pretty much anything else , lorries going to and from the continent are a large part of that system even a short delay (usually when the French are on strike) see's the M20 between Dover and London become a huge Lorry park , anything much longer than that and people won't get their stuff and we'll see how long after that it takes for people to completely lose their shit .
