Ok, so Karate is no longer in the Olympics but breaking is now a thing? I thought this was a joke until I seen a clip today. I still think its some sort of joke. Wtf is next? C-Walking?

I guess my nephew finally has a chance to win an Olympic medal!

It was pretty fun. I'm definitely a bigger fan of this sport than say dressage.

Gold medal match for men:

Both mens and womens finals were great. I skimmed social media earlier and honestly, this being 2024 and all, was not prepared for the 'waaah, not a real sport' comments. Lots of crusty haters out there.

The Australian who did the Dr Zaius dance better get the gold medal.

Well it is not a real sport.

One of the positive elements of the Break competition was just the sheer obvious joy of the participants. They looked like they were having the time of their lives (they probably were) both on the way to the stage and during the routines, and despite the head-to-head nature, the sportsmanship was incredible.

I really didn't understand the judging in the bronze medal match, but outside of that it was great and I'm sad to see it's not on the list for the next games.

What does it being 2024 have to do with the fact its not a sport?

Was definitely my favorite event these Olympics. Such good vibes and great performances (well except the australian mom who managed to sneak in somehow lol)

It most certainly is a sport, if you follow the accepted definition:

"an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or a team competes against another or others for entertainment"

It checks all the boxes, and more clearly than some of the other olympic 'sports' of past and present games.

Hence my point: people who whine about it not being one are just stuck in an old mindset, or have contempt for the cultural aspect. Both of these viewpoints are personal and have nothing to do with the known eligibility criteria.

Whatever else can be said about introducing something that isn't really primarily intended as a competitive activity, and involves subjective judging, nobody can deny these guys are amazing athletes. Breakdancing isn't my favorite, but Dancing definitely has some incredible athletes. I'm reminded of Les Twins.

Remember the powerful breakdancer Neguin who co-starred in some of the world famous Jook dancer Lil Buck's videos?

By that watered down definition, thumb wrestling is a sport if watched by one person.

I’ve been laughing at this Australian broad with her stupid kangaroo pose, bunny hops move, windshield wiper toddler thingy on the floor for the past 30’ minutes, plus the running In circles homer style holding her chin the whole time hhaha. Incredibly hilarious shit. Olympic breakdancing bless.
