To be fair I guess is not impossible that this judge is guilty of something untoward here but the numerous extreme claims of this admin virtually never stand up to scrutiny. They move quickly, break things, and make no apologies or own up to errors.

It's not impossible, but it seems improbable. A judge is pretty educated on matters of law, knows how to read paperwork, etc. If this is a politically nefarious act by the Administration it's likely to fail in Court, but the desired effect is a cooling effect on advocacy for immigrants (of any kind considering this has happened to people WITH papers, and according to the Judge these men HAD papers and were cooperating with CBP). I even say one article where it said Ortega-Lopez was questioned on the firearms and essentially responded enthusiastically. Like "yes I know those guns, I've seen those guns" because they were guns that belonged to a friend. No denial, no run-a-round. Now I'm sure the xenophobes will try to use that to suggest that he is just that bold of a sociopathic gangbanger, but it seems more like he has the impression that liking guns might be an American custom, or even a Constitutional right once you're welcomed here.

ICE have routinely over-stepped their authority, conducted warrantless raids and arrests, arrested wrong targets, sent self-deport orders to citizens, etc. Because they dont care. Its almost like ALL the Administration is concerned with is getting a specific number out, and they go for the easiest targets first regardless of legality. If Judges who are perceived as oppositional are vindicated, they know that's not going to be anywhere near as big of news as "Judge Arrested For Allegedly Harboring Illegal Gang Member!!" If it turns out to be bullsh*t, like the apartment complexes story was, they knew no one will care or admit any wrong. All that might happen is better actors in the Justice system wont act.

Cano has been banned from holding Judicial office. If he is vindicated through the legal proceedings imagine the sh*t he'd have to go through to be un-banned.

A spokesperson for ICE confirmed they were both taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations.

This thread is also an indicator of how they feel about due process of law. All of this is in allegation stages, however there are statements available by all involved they, of course, didnt read. Because the idea is to react to an event, not understand it.

However, whenever a Cop kills someone on video, or there is a societal injustice that disagrees with their personal politics the position becomes:

"I want to see more of the video. I'll wait for more evidence."

That shows they're capable of nuanced thought, they just dont want to give it to specific people.

Post a story like this and the venom and hatred is almost immediate. No due process in Court needed, they're all criminals and should be deported AND buried. And like I said if it turns out to be total bullsh*t and no gang affiliation can be established beyond a reasonable doubt, and their paperwork that the Judge himself reviewed turns out to be legit, they wont come in here and eat their crow over it. They'll just find the next story to hate over and do the old "well what about this one?"

I don't necessarily think so, I think we've just strayed too far left and right. imo it's just years and years of propaganda/indoctrination on both sides. We can't continue to function like this as a country, with two "factions" taking turns trying to fuck the other one over. We need new leaders, we need a focus on unity and what's good for the heart of this country, ie the majority working class. I have no idea how we get there, but I certainly don't see it happening by us just flip flopping each extreme every 4/8 years.
