That post is generating a lot of misunderstanding. My view is we should rehabilitate, not imprison. I’m not saying drugs are awesome and people with kids should smoke crack. All I’m saying is punishment hasn’t worked and we have over 3 decades of data to prove it.

But rehab isn't exactly working either. Most of these punishments are accompanied by drug rehab plans. The low level offenders are usually given a rehab mandate to complete. Doesn't seem to fix a lot of them.

There might just not be a happy medium here. I think they should definitely curb the prison time for the addicts, but at the same time, you might just be giving them enough rope to hang themselves with, and that could come with consequences to others.
