I'm not sure if thats true. In California, carrying a loaded concealed weapon without a ccw carries a harsh penalty. I'm not sure what the law is with brass knuckles.

In California carrying a loaded concealed wwapon (12031 and 12025 CPC) carries a misdemeanor count on the first offense and felony on the second or more offences. Brass knuckles (12020 CPC) is a felony. There are other reasons the guns can be considered a felony on first offense, ex if you are on parole, or if it is a short rifle, or modified, etc.

I will answer the reason why very simply. The NRA has fought for our rights to bear arms (Protected under the constitution), and they have alot of money and voting power. A gun can be use for legimite reasons other then shooting people, and a store owner can carry a gun at their business for protection. Guns can be used as a sport for target practice.

Brass knuckles are used only to hurt people. There is no other use for them. There is no large orginization lobbying for the use of them.

It can be in some areas, like LA. I don't know about up in northern California.

Not sure. But I carry em. Better than a knife, because they are not as lethal. A friend of mine KOed a guy in DC with em. Didn't mess him up too bad, but he did throw him in a dumpster =)

in san francisco its very difficult do get a ccw, in other counties its easier. generaly, the farther north and east you are from sf, the easier it gets. basically, you have to take a hunters safetycourse, and a ccw course, total cost for one gun, about $100, but it varies a great deal by county

I've read articles about it and I know that when you compare the cases between knives and guns, that, if convicted, the cutters usually do more time and deal with harsher penalties than the shooters.

I think the theory is that if you've used a knife, (it blows my mind that I'm actually repeating it) you had to come to grips with your attacker/victim, which insinuates something about not trying hard enough to evade the other person.

Also knife wounds are, from what I understand (I'm not an expert,) more difficult to treat and they're "scarier" or more visceral. Juries don't react well to them.

I think the brass knuckle thing could be something like this. Also, if you punch a dude in the face or head with a set of knucks, you can pretty much be assured that some serious damage has been done.

I wouldn't carry them. If you're hitting someone with your fist, you're obviously not going to hit them as hard (after you break your hand) and you also have more control over the amount of damage you're inflicting.

look, take it from me, DONT carry brass!!! a few years ago i was in a fight and one of the guys in the opposing group had a crowbar and i grabbed my brass to make sure if he came at me with it i had some sort of equalizer, then out of my perifreal vision i see one of the dudes rush me and i hit him with the brass (not very hard because i do have a concious and i didnt want to rearrange this kids jaw, after all he was unarmed) then from behind i was grabbed and taken down to the ground and the guy had a full mount on me and all i could do was make short punches to his head (this cut him but didnt knock him out) i was being kicked in the head by some other dude while he was on top of me too. long storey short my friend pulled him off me i got up and ran the hell away from there and a few weeks later a detective comes to my house searches my room and finds the brass, the 2 dudes presses charges on me and i had an $800 fine spent 24 hours in the county jail ( could have been ALOT longer but my dad payed $1,000 to bail me out) went to court charged with 2 counds of assault with a dangerous weapon, barely dodged a felony charge (got lucky, had a good lawer, and was my first offence) and i had to go to jail on the weekends for like 20 weekends (my lawer arranged for that as opposed to doing a straight month of jail time, she worked out a deal with the D.A. , who knows what the judge would have decided to do) it was all completely shitty, and im not a bad or violent dude, in fact one of the kids who i hurt is in and out of jail and i a total peice of shit, hes broken in houses and even beat up an elderly person when he did once.

anyways all that happend to the other people was cuts that they had to get stiches for on the side of there heads where i hit them, i went through all that for that??? imagine if i had broken there facial bones or something, i mean it is simply not smart to carry those things, even if you arent a bad dude and are in a situation and have to use them you will still get fucked.

at least have the common sense to throw them away afterward, i wish i did for sure.

If you really feel the need to carry some kind of fist weapon, carry a large padlock. There's nothing illegal, or even suspicious about having a padlock on your person. A large padlock in your fist will do every bit as much damage, even though it doesn't form fit your fist quite as well.
