ey guys i was wondering what is better for mma , i was thinking of boxing because im just 5,6

i train bjj 3 times a week now and 3 times thai boxing and im thinking of switchting to boxing .

Thx

I honestly think you should give both a try and do what you enjoy more. One of the keys to getting better is enjoying your training. Join a gym with good coaches, good competitors, and where you enjoy training.

You have some grappling and some striking, which is important. Both boxing and Muay Thai are fun and effective styles with the right teacher, so go with whatever you will stick with.

I suggest stopping all training and learning TKD......lol

it depends on how much you weigh and what's more natural to you.

if oyu already kick box 3 times a week wh on earth would you switch to just hands? That is retarded. Thai Boxing teaches hands..plus you have legs in your arsenal. If it aint broke dont fix it. A good boxing instructor can teach you hands way batter than a thai guy can, but its MMA

If you're in Holland there will be better gyms, sparring partners and training for kickboxing. Since that's what your profile says, it would be a shame to miss out on that.

If you were living in America (or Mexico or some other places) then I would suggest boxing for the same reasons.

Basically I'm saying that the quality of the program will be more important than the style itself.

previous poster has a point, but in the end you need both and you need to mma-adjust both. Right now at this point in the game do what you are weakest at or enjoys most.

oh your in the netherlands... sorry, i take it back.. Take kickboxing.

they're both absolutely essential in mma.. kicks and knees can change fights, but i honestly think boxing is more important between the two, as long as you have a good understanding of clinches, low kicks and checking low kicks, where your liver is, etc. i think you'll benefit more from improving your hand speed and punching power

however, never confuse boxing and mma, they're not even close to the same sport, think of it as you're training one sport to get better at another, you can't train boxing expecting to compete in mma, it just doesn't make sense.. but boxing is a great stand up base and as you progress you'll notice the obvious differences between boxing someone and fighting someone that's wearing 6 ounce gloves and is allowed to knee/elbow/kick you in the face

I say stick with muay thai, but if you want you can take a boxing or kickboxing class. It depends on how long you've been doing muay thai. If you've only been doing it for month or two then dont start taking boxing or kickboxing. If you've been doing muay thai for over a year then yeah, try out some cross training and see how it works out.

Well i train muay thai for like 3 years now and bjj for 1,5 year, i dont train at a mma school that has it all , i just train bjj and muay thai at 2 different gyms.

I can fight mma at my bjj gym , we dont realy got alot of mma gyms at where i live .

If I were you I'd focus on kickboxing. If you have a good trainer you will learn enough boxing to compete in MMA. If you notice the majority of the strikers competing in MMA can't hold a candle to fighters that are sport specific in that area ie oscar delahoya, buakaw, in terms of technique.

So yeah just develop your kickboxing and you can incorporate what you think you need from boxing later.

I wouldn't do one or the other per se, just use the 3 mt per week as 3 stand up and use one to focus on hands if you feel that you need to.
