A guy on a different forum once told me that Floyd Mayweather would not be able to deal with Sean Sherk in an MMA matchup because he "has never been hit by anybody like Sean Sherk"

After watching last saturday's match, I can safely say that even if the two were fight for 100 straight rounds, Floyd would still not know what it would be like to be hit by sherk.

LOL. Excellent.

I've ssid before that as MMA evolves it'll start looking a lot more like boxing.

While some hyperbole there, the punch is still the ultimate weapon in combat between skilled combatants.

Like in kickboxing, they had it in the rules you had to do a minimum amount of kicks in the fight.

Kicks take too long to reach their target.

Flame away, but that's how I see it. :)

I don't think it's that they take too long in that they're more difficult to land, as well as time. I don't think that's necessarily due to slowness because the best kickboxers either had fast feet, or kicked so hard slowness wasn't that much of a problem.

I'd say they're more difficult to time, for sure, and if a Fighter waits to time a KO kick the fight can be mundane. But too slow to reach the target? Not with any quality Fighters.

man, its not even about the damage. Its never about the damage with the jab. If you're a fighter, no matter what kind. That should be apparent to you.

Its a little about the damage. Having a strong damaging jab is what keeps people off you. If you have a weak jab that doesn't hurt too much then opponents get wise to it and walk through it to get you. Thats basically the main reason Vlad is so dangerous is cause its frigging impossible to get through his jab without getting the shit slapped out of you.

Penns jab was good, but didn't look too damaging. It was just used to make distance and stuff Sherks offense. If you can get a fighter that really powers out those jabs like a lot of boxers...especially as fast as them, they could probably eat people alive with it if used properly. I bet a round of stiff jabs with those gloves could swell and cut a persons face real bad.

u can catch a kick, but at best you can parry a punch.

booyakasha!

Or me, I'm 6'3 and weigh only 150. I depend on the jab... At the begining, for every 20 jabs, I probably throw just one or two rights. As my opponent gets worn down, I start to pick up the pace, though.

And beleive me, I jab to damageeeee.

Lord. Do you only have one leg? A parasite? If I cut down to the absolute minimum my body could tolerate, I'd be sitting at about 190 lbs., and that would be a stretch. For the record, I'm also 6'3".

Granted, I'm not a fighter, i'm just saying. That seems freakish to me. Oh well. Being that tall in that weight class should be a benefit.

As for jabbing to damage, there are different theories. Some guys use a jackhammer type jab that is designed to be a power punch as much as anything. Some guys use it to judge distance. Some guys just use a stiff jab to keep guys at bay and get timing down. Some use it as a feint. Some use it, as you do, to wear a guy down. None of these approaches are wrong if used correctly.

in boxing he probably wouldn't be hit but even you boxing fans have got to admit in MMA sherk would take floyd down faster than lesnar did to mir and submit or GnP him to a finish very quickly but me the MMA knows the same in a boxing match floyd would massacre sherk but if you were sepaking about MMA in your post im sorry buddy but you sir are mistaken
