I've seen the Tyson and Ali flicks, but honestly I'm bored to death of both of them. Anyone know if any good docs on other boxers? Anything on Jack Dempsey or even SRR or Duran?

Edit: Mind you I have looked but even if their isn't docs maybe videos of history on anyone.

"The Fight" is a good one about Joe Louis vs Max Schmeling.

Unforgiveable Blackness is a great documentary about Jack Johnson. Obviously there's some bias, but it gives a great insight into the times he lived in and what it was like to be the first black World Heavyweight Champion.

Second "Unforgivable Blackness", I can watch it over and over, great narration done by name actors and entertaining comments from those interviewed. Others:

Facing Ali (I like it as it focuses on Ali's opponents and you get their side of events)
Ghosts of Manilla (probably my fave, you get to see Frazier's view about the fight)
Assault in the Ring (the fallout of two boxer's lives years after one cheated)
Winning Is Our Duty (chronicles the lives of young Cuban boxers)

There is one about a boxer who killed another in the ring for supposedly questioning his sexual orientation that I think was on HBO years ago but haven't been able to even find the title. If anyone knows the title or a link it would be appreciated...

Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story, that's a great one.

The Legendary Night series is worth a mention too.

There was one on Sugar Ray Robinson a couple months ago on HBO.It was one of the best ones I has seen.I can't remember the exact name of it(it's driving me fucking crazy that I can't remember),but it is good and very much worth watching.I think Right Hand Left posted it earlier actually.I never knew he was that great of an amateur fighter till I watched that.Wow,what a record. There are a lot of good docs on fighters and fights out there though TS.You just have to look.

I always give the same answer to this question.

Ring of Fire, the Emile Griffith story. Awesome documentary. If the end doesn't get to you a little, you're made of stone.

Everything that's been given so far has been a tremendous help :)

Thank you all.

rocky marciano doc starring jon faverau who directed iron man

Ring of Fire
Assault in the ring
Unforgivable Blackness
Fighting Ali
All mentioned before and are top drawer

Southpaw (about Francis Barret)
Great doc about a traveller from Galway, was training in a crappy trailer off the back of a lorry and went on to represent Ireland at the Olympics. Came home a hero with the keys to the city, a big step when it happened as the traveling community are generally treated as outcasts, this is shown many times in the film. Ages since I seen it, gonna watch it now.

I think I know what you're talking about. It's called Bright Lights, Dark Shadows of a Champion. It's an awesome, emotional film.
