Everytime there is noise about a boxer competing in mma people flock to talk about how the boxer will KO everyone if they connect because of their hand speed.

Do people just not realise how differnt mma striking is to boxing? Boxers b look great against other boxers everything is different in mma. MMA striking will never look as fluid compared to boxing because there are so much more things in play.

Point is if an MMA fighter stands with a boxer they will pay the price. Look at Ray Mercer vs. Tim Sylvia.

A boxing stance will result in having your lead leg mauled.

James Toney got taken down with an ankle pick, something you basically never see in MMA.

Striking in mma is a toss-up. Kicks and takedowns dictate the stance. The boxer would need to make adjustments to exploit the boxing advantage.

There's truth to this, for instance Mayweather. All the takedown defense in the world wouldn't make boxing style suitable for MMA.

Boxing in boxing rules is night and day different than mma rules. In mma there are kicks, knees, elbows dirty boxing clinch work etc etc. Not to mention threat of the take down. In boxing you must be at the optimal range to be effect while standing. When Sylvia lost to Mercer he was standing right in front of him like a moron and didn't use any MMA technique. As if it were a boxing match. It wasn't.

See the early UFCs.

Having good hands won't do shit without good fundamentals in all other areas.

Boxers are used to refs breaking them in the clinch. In MMA that shit is just flowing into the next level of combat.

Good hands are complimentary, but jut a small part of overall MMA.

Right, but that's not what the TS said. He said "hand strikers". Put on a "hand striking" bout, and the MMA guys would get worked. Make it an MMA bout, and the boxers get worked.

He still has better hands than any MMA fighter ever by a lot.

I wish CIntron transitioned in the mid 2000's. Darchinyan too.

In a boxing match.

How else would you measure "hand striking"? Boxers come into my Muay Thai gym all the time and kick our asses when it comes to boxing. MT is a different story, but they clearly have better hands.

Boxers are better hand strikers simply because they don't need to train grappling, kicks, TDD etc. They can focus solely on a single aspect while a MMA fighter needs to be fairly well rounded.

Boxers look like superior hand strikers to mma fighters because they're superior hand strikers

There you have it folks. I guess we can now close the book on the old boxing vs MMA argument.

Boxers are better "hand strikers." If you're going to call that boxing instead of "hand striking" now, then why start this pointless thread? Any way you measure it, they're better with their hands. MMA training is too varied to compete in a single aspect with people who train just as much on that single aspect.
