this is a game that I remember coming out and everyone loving it, but at the time I think I was playing another game and wasn’t interested in picking up a new one. Excited to try it out and see how things go. Any persona 5 fans out there?

Great game, just know going in that Persona games have a slow start introducing characters and mechanics. It's probably 5~6 hours before they really cut you loose.

So far it’s been more like a movie but it’s good so I don’t mind

Phenomenal game. Probably in my top five favorites of all time.

But yeah it's slow to start. Once you get a few party members it really picks up. Awesome characters.

Awesome game. My play time for my play through was around 85 hours and I got through all of the dungeons really quickly. It's a huge game

Ideally you want to try to not leave a dungeon until the game forces you for the day.

Yeah, great game. Be prepared though. It's a beast.

Also be prepared for Palace 5 to make you hate the game for few hours.

One recommendation: Get the SP Adhesive trinkets from the Doctor ASAP. Makes getting through the dungeons in one day super easy.

The game took me about 121 hours to beat it. I took it casual, did a lot of side activities and grinded a lot more than I needed to.

The last dungeon is a bitch, stock up on curry/coffee/healing items. And the SP adhesive is a must.

I enjoy a good challenge though so I’ll probably be into it. So far I’ve just beat the first palace and enjoyed it a lot.

Palace 5 isn't so much a challenge, as it is a test of patience. Luckily, it's the only real weak spot in the game.

But yeah, get working on friending up that doctor lady. Her SP perks are an absolute must, if you don't want to be ripping your hair out later on in the game.

What is so good about Persona 5?

Specifically, I want to know if the writing is typical JRPG cringey like Valkryia Chronicles. I couldn't stomach the dialogue in that game, it was so bad.

Well, it is very anime-ish, in terms of it's storytelling. It's got a healthy dose of over the top cringe dialogue. However, what makes it good, is that it's more than the sum of it's parts. It really does a great job of defining the characters, and connecting you to them, despite it's tropes.

Aside from that, the combat mechanics are some of the best you'll experience in a JRPG. It kind of turns the typical JRPG repetitive combat on it's head, and gives you more to think about than just gaining experience.

Overall, the whole experience just comes together beautifully, where you stop noticing it's faults. It's hard to explain properly, but it's just a really well put together experience. I put 120 hours into this bitch, and rarely did I ever feel fatigued. You'll grind, but it's fun. You'll roll your eyes a bit here and there at the story and dialogue, but eventually start to really care about what's going on. The gameplay loop is so damn good, that you think less and less about it's base level concepts, and just get swept away in it all.

In terms of your specific critique though, imagine a really bad B-movie that's just boring to sit through, and terrible all around, compared to a really good B-movie where you forgive it's faults, because it's just so damn entertaining and creative. I personally can't stand that typical anime cringe shit that I believe you're talking about, but with this, it got to a point where I never even thought about it, because I got swept up in the total package. The game is like a piece of coal, condensed and refined to a diamond. Give it a chance. You won't regret it.

^ Damn, that's a well-crafted response. I will definitely be buying the game now.

Yeah, the intro/story telling that kicks off the game is something I don’t normally have patience for, but I didn’t even mind it in the slightest. Like you said, you just get swept away

Not sure you'll enjoy this if you found Valkyria Chronicles cringe.

Shit.

Alright, I'll keep scouting.

Yea do what the other guy said and watch a youtube video of the first couple hours or something. It's story heavy at the begging so you should get an idea if it's to much cringe for you or not.

Watched a few minutes of a Let's Play video and I think I'm in. The animation looks awesome and yeah, very, very weird. What the hell, I'll give it a shot.
