Also, strong family is correlated with strong outcomes in terms of peoples success.

In any case, it seems we're heading towards some version of Huxley's Brave New World with the breakup of the family unit as a building block of society, and a hook-up, materialist culture forming.

VR Porn is bound to have some pretty damaging psychological effects, as does regular porn.

Sure it causes problems, so does an ever increasing population.

I agree the family unit and culture serve critical functions in a functioning society.

My point is that it is Russian roulette to assume that one day our population levels will magically level off. We live in a world of finite resources and wealth. Every new mouth, is a mouth that needs to be fed.

You point to population trends in developed nations that havent existed for more then a generation. It was just 60 years ago we had the baby boomers.

Porn has driven technology for a long time now so it's nothing new or unexpected that it happens with VR. I'll never understand the people that have big problems with others deriving sexual pleasure on their own, without affecting anyone else by it. If anything I'd like the stigma of religion to go away faster so we can be more open about sex (not meaning that you do it in public, but in order to have a healthier relationship to it and a better discussion around it).

The population levels will level off and we can fairly accurately predict when it happens. There's actually not an increase of children being born anymore (because the poor countries actually have been working at the issue, which many people don't know) so the coming increase of the world's population will be the poor getting better living standards and therefor living longer. Of course that still means several more billion people until we've reached the peak, so it's still unsustainable to live like we westerners do.

I think even the secular population has replacement level (2-2.1), but certainly the religious population accounts for the big increases.

I am a huge GoT fan though. I read literally all 5 books & short stories about 5 times each so far. I reread them every time because there's always a new puzzle piece to put together each read, seriously. the story is that deep.

I'd recommend you quit watching the show, & give the books a read first. then follow up on the show again. you'll see how HBO pointlessly sexualized a lot of it & it's a fun read altogether regardless.

I didn't mind it too much, but then fell behind and left it. It is cruder though than most other shows outside of maybe Shameless. I kept up with The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad til it finished, both of which I liked a lot more anyway. Some time if I have time I may pick it up again. I do wish GOT wasn't quite so crass on some things, but that's probably moot and maybe part of it's appeal. Thanks for the offer.

What's strange is how accepted spank fodder is nowadays. I work in the tech industry, and I work with some straight up nerds and they all have their favorite porn stars.

It is a struggle because it is everywhere. But you are a man and you can train yourself to avoid porn. You're smart enough to know what things you need to stay away from. If it's a website, or a link on the side of the computer screen, don't click on it. But I know it's everywhere.

If it's on sherdog, cover up the avatars with a piece of paper. Honestly I wish the mods would crack down on the porn avatars but the people who run the place want it here.
