They can’t match him up with Francis since he’s likely leaving anyways.
Rather than matching Jon up with prime heavyweight contenders like Gane, Aspinall, or Blaydes, they give him the former champ who is old, inactive and got brutally finished his last fight.
Stipe isn’t even a draw either, so it’s not like booking him was a necessity from a financial perspective. The UFC is just protecting Jones. What will be interesting will be how he will avoid fighting the young killers once he beats Stipe. He’ll probably just retire I guess after this last payday.
