Bones' boxing seems very poor. Seems very Brockish.

His jab is non-existent as he just paws at people with open fists and has to be reminded by good refs like Big John McCarthy to close them. Eye pokes from Jon Jones are a staple of his standup game.

At one point, Bones looked like a bar brawler swinging wildly and missing by like 5ft. This was also due to Gusstaffson's footwork but Bones just looked frustrated and outclassed.

    Bones also lacks punching power.
Before anybody mentions elbows - I said boxing.

Jones and Lesnar seem very similar in the fact they both close their eyes, duck into their shoulders and wince whenever there is an exchange.

Standing KO is going to be Jon Jones' undoing.

You can't be great at everything. Although major work on that jab could probably up his game immensely.

I disagree a little. I mean, he stood in there and banged with a pretty good striker on Saturday night for five rounds.

Jones steps back and turns his head to the side, that's all he does when he gets hit.

I disagree. Brock's boxing as well as his muay thai were about what you'd expect from someone that was thrown to the wolves in the beginning of his career. Jones seems much more comfortable on the feet and doesn't rush at his opponents as Brock often did. He usually keeps distance and picks his opponents apart rather effectively. And I've never seen him turtle.

He's got alot of work to do in that dept. But honestly given his size its not that necessary. Only person he's gotta worry about is Alex

LOL, he tries to block punches like it's a Bruce Lee movie, with an open hand. No wonder Big John kept warning him to keep his hands closed.

Definitely weakest spot in his game.

Generally his style, pressure, takedowns, elbows, and other crazy stuff makes it rather irrelevant, and he mauls people with kicks and elbows.

I wouldn't call it "Brockish", Ronda Rousey has better boxing than Brock.

Have you considered that maybe Bones isn't bad, that Gus is just very good? Rashad couldn't take Jones down, but I wouldn't say that makes him a bad wrestler. Nor would I say that Big Nog is bad at BJJ just because he got submitted by Werdum.

Jones' strength is obviously his wrestling, but the fact that Gus had him looking mediocre on the feet should be used to credit Gus, not discredit Bones.

LMAO You guys do realize Jon Jones outstruck Gusta right?

And he was doing the stalking.

MMA striking is more than just hands.

Total troll thread, though I agree to a small extent. He showed really poor defense in this fight, very little head movement, seemed to have very little understanding of how to use his hands and his arms to protect himself from punches. He honestly kind of reminded me of Haseem Rahman is his second figt with Lennox Lewis, not that any of you will know what I'm talking about. Oh well. He'll get learn from it and improve.

I think comparing Jones' boxing to Brock's is a bit of a stretch. When Brock got tagged he panicked and rolled over. Bones hung in there and took some huge shots and delivered some too. But there is no doubt that boxing is Jones's weak point. He ought to continue to work on it, but not at the expense of the more dynamic and effective aspects of his game.

He was very flat-footed and was like a statue most of the fight.

    "Bones' boxing seems poor."

Do you have anything to add about what we're talking about? If not, go post in the "jones was stalking gus" thread.

Jon Jones has poor boxing and doesn't like getting hit.

I am a Jones fan and even i can agree he didn't, but he did enough to win 3 of the 5 rounds
