Hey everyone, I was just wondering what you guys thought on this topic. I have been lifting weights 5 to 6 days a week for almost 5 years now, and I am extremely happy with where I am at strength and physique wise. I also have been grappling for about 4 years now and my own curiosity is getting the best of me into seeing how my strength and physique would change in relating to my grappling if I were to do just pure body weight exercises. Has anyone ever tried this switch and if so details would be nice.

How often do you lift now? What is your strength level? Since you are satisfied with where you are at, I'd assume pretty damn high. Eventually, you are bound to lose some strength if only doing BW exercises (IMO). My reasoning is that you can't go from squatting, deadlifting, benching, overhead pressing, etc. in a week with a heavy load to doing pushups, pullups, and BW squats only and not expect some decreases.

They're just two different tools you can use. There's nothing magical about bodyweight that isn't present with real weights. If you restrict yourself to either you're silly.

That being said, dips and chins are my favourite BW exercises.

Weigthed pull-ups and dips give you the best of both worlds.

true but what about lower body?
I'd say back squats are to bw squats what weighted pull-ups are to bw pull-ups... If you see what I mean... I don't see any BW movement for lower body that doesn't involve some form of squatting, besides GH raises... but there might be, probably.

Hill Sprints?

The reason weights work better is because you can easily adjust the load as needed for the exercise. If you only do BW exercises either it becomes endurance work or you have do progressions to harder variations, like planches and one arm chins.

Muscle Ups and burpees are the ultimate bodyweight workouts.

Muscle Ups take a while to master though, much like an olympic snatch or clean and jerk.

If you are satisfied with what you have now why would you change your routine for results that might change satisfaction?

Just my own curiosity. Like I said i feel great now, but would it be possible to feel even better with just working with only my body weight.

become a gymnast.

can one become a gymnast later in life?
