how good are these things?...i have a heavy bag outside, but im looking for something to train on inside and it would fit in my bed room, would it be any good?...thanks

We have one at my house, it's my roomates. It's good but he got the free standing model and it moves around a lot. Still, for the house it's not bad.

do you have to pull your punches because the neck is too weak?...and will it last fairly well?

It's fine for a static target and the torso is firm enough to give some decent resistance... but the head does go all over the place... I don't think you have to pull punches on it though unless you were worried about hyperextending... I've never found that to be a problem.

In my opinion? Cool to have as an extra sparring dummy for more targeted shots, but replacement for a heavy bag (which also teaches rhythm)? Probably not.

I forgot to mention... it is a decent 'bedroom bag' if you don't have a ton of room.

And... don't try to kick it unless you have 100% mid/high kick accuracy or don't value the bones in your feet. There is a "skirt" you can buy for it, but I've also heard of people buying a thick layer of foam to wrap around the base.

Bob Blows dogs for quarters...get a Spar Pro it's is much more stable.

if you had to choose between the BOB or this one for your bedroom, which one?

I haven't used the BOB, but I do have the Ringside free standing heavy bag. It's great - for garage use at least. If you have it in your bedroom, I think it's going to slide some on the carpet, even with the 300 lbs of sand in it. Also the bag itself isn't really "heavy" , it's quite light, it's the spring at the bottom that is the key to that piece. The bag moves a fair amount when you hit it with a power punch, I'm thinking you'd need a pretty big bedroom for this to work. It also isn't good for mid and high kicks, there isn't enough resistance too it, it's going to move too much (IMO), again due to the spring. (That being said maybe I push too much when kicking and should snap it more - I'm a total amateur).

BOB is horrible, it looks cool but not that good.

The thinner free standing one from Ringside, the $199 one is great. My father has one and with 100lbs of sand in it, it doesn't move at all. You can also get wheels for it for $60.

There is also the Wavemaster which is $99. Like the BOB it has a plastic base and even full of water it still moves. You have to put sand for a good base. It is good for a cheaper one, but if you are serious, I would go with the $199 one from Ringside.
