i haven't really ever heard of it in the ufc, but has anybody heard rumours about it happening. it is really common in a lot of sports. also i wonder how usada would go testing for it.

They all do it.

can some explain to me what blood doping is? is that when they draw ur own blood, freeze it, then put it back in ur body? it puts more oxygen in ur blood or something like that right?

can someone explain the difference between epo and blood doping?

yes that is how blood doping works. epo is a drug that boosts red blood cell count that was created for kidney transplants.

Nice, creating a rumor that has never been rumored, I have been following the UFC since 2003 and have seen every single event at least twice and never heard of this nonsense

Are you saying that blood doping is a rumor but isn't real?

wouldn't be surprised if some of the fighters haven't started doing it as a way to cut weight. image how much they could cut if they had a date with dracula the night before.

if blood doping is increasing blood

i think thats what HGH does right? pretty sure the guy that fought demetrius johnson for the title got popped for that. Ali bagu-how ever you spell it

human growth hormone is just that. it makes everything grow. even the size of your mellon if you take enough.

They will be able to notice the rise in your blood cells no? ..simple blood tests would show this..plus pulling blood out of your system before a fight and on top of a normal weight cut..would probably kill you.. doesnt seem logical..or free of being caught..

. I never heard of it in mma. Blood doping, unless I am mistaken, only benefits Cardio Endurance, which is a PART of the conditioning formula for successfull mma athletes, from what I've read I think blood doping is more beneficial for strictly endurance sports. This would help an athlete's ability to do something reptitive for over 30 mins, but training like that may decrease the athlete's power and strength.

TL DR: MMA requires a mixture of cardio endurance, muscular endurance, strength and power, I think blood doping only focuses on only cardio endurance (need to double check tho).

They can only notice an increase in red blood cells if they keep track of the usual amount that person has.

Still, it's quite hard to test for, since EPO is a naturally produced hormone and you can stimulate it in natural ways.
For cycling fans, in the early 90s, Miguel Indurain would make his preparation for the Tour de France, by spending 3 weeks in the rocky Mountains, where oxygen is rarer, and your body will start increasing the natural production of EPO. Or think Werdum, when he went to Mexico several weeks before the fight with Cain to adapt to altitude (and less oxygen).

So... natural or artificial increase? Not really easy to tell. From what I heard, they just have a threshold they consider "safe" and test if one is over or Under that threshold. Of course, some people have naturally higher EPO.

Even with biological passports, you can "cheat" by trying to add just enough to be Under the suspicious standards.

I think TS has indeed heard rumors about it but is lying

The russian cat that lost to Mighty Mouse got caught blood doping if my memory serves me right. Dunno much about it, but u can do it clean by having those chambers, all though that counts as doping in my country it seems like UFC fighters use them with no hassle from usada. TJ had one at hes house he showed off on a ufc count down I think. So under the anti doping code in my country «all» UFC fighters are doping!
