when I am training i have a tendacy to block punches with my elbows. the truth is i fucked up my sparring partners hands! elbows and knees are the hardest bones in the human body.I want to know if this a good teqnique to use in a real fight or you will fuck up your elbows?

I block with my elbow all the time, I think Bas called it a "wing block" or something on Pride one time. Jst seems like an effective way to block and intercept head punches.

check out 'crazy monkey' by rodney king. builds elbow blocking into an art form , and how to go from elbow blocks to strikes/clinch and back to elbow blocks effectively.

doesn't that leave your ribs exposed for body hooks?

I block alot of punches to the head and body with different parts of my hand down to my elbows. I use my elbows/forarms to block body punches by dropping my elevation and turning slightly into the body punches or I will expand my chest and stomach or hump my back up to make my body a smaller or slightly turned target that can be covered by my elbows forarms ect. This is a very effective way of blocking because it is very easy to slip a counter punch off of their punch or to tie them up in a clinch if you are hurt. It also can hurt the other guys hands and set up very short uppercuts if done right.
However this is not a technique that is for a beginer because you can get caught by a guy who feints well with his feet or hands and get off balance if you do it while you are not relaxed.

i can take the hits

That's a very good point.

Bas mentioned at a seminar once that you better get used to getting hit because you can't block everything.

I will tell you one thing if you neglect covering up your ribs and body you will be in a very short fight. Taking body punches will shorten your career they do alot of damage if you take enough of them. I have knocked alot of guys down with steady body punching because it rattles their entire body and I am not a big puncher. i would rather get hit in the face ten time full bore than hit in the body by a solid punch.

yeah, thats some good stuff right there.

crazy monkey taught by rodney king is a different kind of system. quinton only uses the brush the hair stroke to block hooks/looping punches. the system talks about blocking straights and shovel hooks.
