What exactly are blockweights and how can I get started with them?

After some googling I saw some dumbbell heads sawed off, but can you just keep the dumbbell whole? I dont have anything that can cut metal.

saw the heads off, thats what I did.

If you cannot possibly saw them off (if you cant do this you have no business lifting weights), try pinching weight plates with the smooth site facing out on both sides.

I think block weights are the best way to build hand strength.

google search "erics nail bending site" for some more info

Here's a link for you: Training with Block Weights : Straight to the Bar | all things strength

I guess I don't really see the purpose. As part of my grip work, I've always done what I called "Hex dumbbell claw holds", which is essentially what he is describing, yet I use the entire dumbbell. I only use 20 lbs, but that's not much different than cutting a 45 lbs weight. I would imagine the 45 lbs hex dumbbell would be wider. I guess I don't really see the point. Am I missing something?

If you have the cut-off blocks you can do farmers walks, tossing, cleans, snatches, swings, single hand deadlifts, holds and many more.

There are few exercises that can be performed with the handle staying intact (in comparison to free block weights).

I would not trade my cut off hex block weights for anything. Cut that handle off!
