EDIT x 2: Obviously, if any person of any race was treated like shit by Starbucks it would be WRONG. The tone of my post is NOT meant to indicate that I am under the notion that only black people are targeted.

...but classic racism is still a fucking problem in the USA..

Obviously.

And in this case, it boggles my mind why some of you Sherdoggers choose to besmirch the character of these 2 individuals.

The world could really use more people like these guys.

They didn't act the fool when cops appeared a mere 2 minutes after they sat down. The cops arrested them without drama...and that was that.

In the end, justice prevailed, as these gentleman handled it on their own terms while helping out the community in the process.

EDIT: The hate in this thread is creepy and fucked.

These gentlemen were MEETING someone there for business reasons. Said person showed up as the dudes were being taken away.

It's more professional to order something at the same time, which was their plan.

Oh, and even if it WAS a restaurant in which one seats themselves, there is such a thing as...waiting until the rest of your party arrives.

...but it wasn't a restaurant. It was fucking Starbucks.

Lastly, if it was a policy to call the cops if people sit there for a while before ordering.......(mind you, these dudes just got there...and the cops were called) then THEY WOULDN'T HAVE A BUSINESS TO SPEAK OF.

People who go there just to meet friends, etc are loss leaders that Starbucks NEEDS in order to thrive.

In closing, Sherdog never fails to disappoint me in terms of...a lack of humanity.

So thank you to anyone who isn't racist...etc.

Oh, and FUCK Starbucks.

Two black men arrested for sitting at a Philadelphia Starbucks without ordering anything have settled with the city for a symbolic $1 each and a promise from officials to set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs.

The men's lawyer and Mayor Jim Kenney outlined the agreement to The Associated Press.

The arrest of Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson on April 12 touched off a furor around the U.S. over racial profiling.

They were led away in handcuffs after the manager called the police, saying the men refused to buy anything or leave. After spending hours in jail, they were released and no charges were filed.

The men said they were waiting for a business meeting about a potential real estate deal.

Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson came to Philadelphia to personally apologize. He also announced Starbucks stores would close May 29 for training on bias.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They are to be lauded, but in my personal view, Starbucks should have been taken to task...

They really should have at least tried to settle for at least 1 mil each.

Fuck Starbucks.

FYI, I'm from Seattle.

I can see why Starbucks might apologize, but why should the police?

Why are they being punished?

Why do you deem that a "punishment" upon the city...?

Coffee is a hell of a drug...

Obviously, they do everything wrong.
I'm all for holding the police accountable, but they did their jobs well in this instance imo.

Business owners asked these guys to leave. They wouldn't. So the police asked them to leave. They wouldn't. So the police arrested them, got them out of there, and then didn't press charges. Seems like they did their jobs and weren't heavy-handed at all. Any controversy ought to remain between Starbucks and these two gentlemen.

TAXTAXTAXTAXTAX... Layers and layers of tax. Out of site out of mind i suppose.

Weird that the city is paying for it. The officers didn't do anything wrong. Any blame should be put on Starbucks.

I don't think this will have any bearing on a future settlement with Starbucks

It.
Is.
An.
Investment.

Don't hate a good cause like that bro.

Meh, not really for the current tax payers.

It might be a future investment for the city if the program nets over 200k in futures taxes from any of the people in the program that become successful entrepreneurs.

Also the police were called because of loitering. They followed the wishes of the store. Settlement from the city should be 0 unless the LEO's did anything wrong.

There is no place for logic and reason these days. People will ignore that the police did a perfect job. People will ignore the fact that the men should have listened to the police and left the private business. People will ignore the truth.
