BJM, Chael Sonnen and Unified MMA rules state clearly that the bell doesn't end the round!

What Hector Lombard and JDR did has never been illegal and it is the strangest thing that after all these years people still don't understand that! The end of a round is signified by the sound of the bell and the call of time by the referee. Once the referee has made the call of time, any offensive actions initiated by the fighter shall be considered after the bell and illegal. Look at the order this is written, the referee needs to make the call of time and this is done by getting between the fighters, BJM wrote the rules and i have referenced his opinion. http://www.abcboxing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/unified_rules_fouls_rev0816.pdf

Stop referencing the simplified rules that are posted on ufc website these arent the unified rules, the thousands of people complaining need to admit they're wrong, what these fighters did is not against the rules and never has been, no contests would be best suited in these situations for the ref's incompetence and inability to get between the fighters when the bell has gone.

This never needs to be discussed ever again.

Pretty sure where they fought hadn't adopted the unified rules though.
i referenced the rules actually from years ago in a past thread but the rules link seems to have been taken down and i cannot find them but i have quote of it and the quote is exactly the same when it comes to this specific foul, this has been the rule since the beginning of time, also consider the BJM post is from 2014 before the unified mma rules.

Yeah I alrdy edited my post coz I think I misread what you said. Anyways I don't rly care to discuss it lol.

Ok and so the ref yelled “time” and Lombard still punched after that lol

incorrect pause the video as he says time the punch is already being thrown, he should have ended the round by getting between them and he chose not to do so. BJM the creator of the rules has said many times they the refs need to get in between the fighters with the arm and it should only be a DQ if a strike goes past the arm before its completely straight.

Ref was already calling time as the first punch was being thrown, but it was the 2nd shot that put CB down. While the ref should try to intervene between the fighters, no where does it state they have to throw their entire body into the 2 fighters to signal the end of the round.

Should have been a no-contest instead of DQ. Lombard's punch was already thrown when the ref called time.

watch the clip he is throwing the 2nd punch before the ref says time, no where does it state that yelling time while your combo is finishing signals the end of the round, clearly the rule is written ambiguously and using common sense like BJM (the writer of the rules) it would be best to call the ending of the round by sticking your hand out in front of them.

I don't think it was intnetional. Lombard was already i motion while the bell rung. Sometimes a fighter can stop it but it's hard in the heat of the moment it was just bad luck

You remember when Aldo dropped Mendes with a 1-2 after the bell in their second fight?

That clearly hurt Mendes and clearly could have changed the whole fight, but nobody said a thing.

Im sticking with "WWMHD" (What would Matt Hamill do)

getting punched in the face, crowd cheering, who knows how many times we get ring smacks (like the 10 second, 1 minute, everytime a coach wants a fighter to give it 100%, etc) for any of these noises to be what matters. And the ref trying to blade his hand in without getting struck is all the proof you need to understand those few micro-seconds need to be figured out.

I did see the clip and he yells time as the first punch is going. And the tweet from BJM that you've been using to argue your point clearly say the round ends at the refs call and yelling time is literally the ref calling a halt to the action.

pause the video in small increments he is well into throwing his 2nd punch before he has finished saying time.

The bell ends the round. It comes from boxing. If the ref's too late to step between the fighters it's his fault, but he wouldn't need to do that if fighters didn't cheap shot. That's why the ref rule is written down. It's not because there's extra time after the round time ends.

The referee said time as Lombard threw the first punch, before he threw the second. CB dropped his hands, and Lombard chose not to stop, or even take the power out of his punch. With or without the bell, it was late.
