I am relatively new to BJJ, I have trained for about 6 months, 3 of which were formal training and 3 were just rolling around with some guys at school. Anyways, I have access to a gym, and I am wondering if there are any specific weight workouts or general workouts that will help me in BJJ? Are there any muscle groups that I should concentrate over the others?

I also got critiqued, saying I have a good wrestling base. I dont know what that means because I havent wrestled before. Clarification please?

Thanks.

There really isn't any workout that is specifically meant for BJJ, but what I do is plate workouts (if you find the ASU workout video thread) and a lot of hindu pushups/squats. The strength you get from grappling is only attainable through grappling. but deadlift, squat, lunges, and dumbell snatches are recommended..

when i think about wrestling base it usually means you have a pretty good defense against sweeps and good balance on top.

I am going to start doing plate workouts and see what it does for me.

I hate "gym" gyms. S&C is so agonizing to me.

Just go to as many training sessions as you can. If you want a strength workout, train with the biggest dudes. If you want a conditioning workout, train with someone higher ranked and never stop in a position, just keep flowing from one to the other.

.

Somehow..when you roll even though you're so damn tired and about to pass out it seems less boring as compared to strength or cardio workouts.

probably because you always have to think about your next move. when you lift weights its mindless

Adrenaline injection + basket weaving = X-treme basket weaving

Adrenaline makes everything fun:D
