BJJ vs. Judo - which is better for defending yourself in the street?

Both are rudimentary compared to the master of the arts.

Neither.

In a street fight you want to be light on your toes and working the jab.

There’s no reason for any of that hanky-panky grappling stuff. Besides, if you start wrapping limbs around a male agitator all it will result in is the crowd of people watching to start giggling and calling you names like “hungry thighs” or “fancy boy”…. You don’t want that grief.

Honestly I'm guessing for the average person learning a little Judo is probably the best option, most people are going to have little or no ability to deal with relatively simple clinchs and trips.

Thats going from my memory at school anyway, I was by no means large at that age and the small number of "fights" I was in(none started by me) all ended up with me sitting on someones chest until they gave up via basic orange belt judo.

Which martial arts do you think is better for defending yourself in the streets? I've seen a lot of street fights with both martial arts coming in handy and giving the guy the win.
Fighting is no longer needed if you use BJJ in the streets. You can scare them away by dropping to the ground and opening your legs for them. After all the art of war says winning without fighting is the highest form of success

Or shout and scream ground monkey and they all proceed to stamp on your face....

Ice Hockey

Plus Skateboarding, which has Judo as part of its curriculum.
