I was in Philadelphia this week for business, and I had the great opportunity to train at Jared Weiner's Academy, BJJ United. I had e-mailed Jared the week before about the possibility of training there for a day or two. He got back to me right away, and he couldn't have been nicer. As it turns out, I was only able to train at his school for one class, but it was worth the 45 min drive trip (Philly traffic can be a killer). I attended a fundamentals class, which was very well attended. Jared taught the class, and took the time to give individual instruction based on his observation of the students. The students were welcoming, courteous, and demonstrated good technique. It was a big class, but I saw absolutely no meathead behavior. Bottom line, it was top-notch instruction to hard working students. If you are in the Philly area, definitely check out BJJ United.

Last, on a completely unrelated note, Pat's cheese steaks are better than Geno's, but I'm told John's is the best in Philly (although unfortunately I didn't get a chance to get one from there).

Pats and Genos are only good at 4am when you are hammered.

Johns Roast Pork on Snyder is the best place.

Of the tourist spots Jims on South Street beats Pats and Genos.
