So I've only got a few weeks experience and there's this guy who to pass my guard will always stand up and back out then control my ankles.

What's the best way to stop him doing this?

I could try to pull him back in but it seems pretty energy inefficient. What are other options available as I don't really have enough experience to know. Is gripping his ankles and legs a viable option.

I'm guessing you train gi? If he is good he will normally pin down one of your wrists. Don't let him get this grip. If he is just purely standing you should be able to sweep him by either gripping both his ankles or underhooking one of his legs.

I really wouldn't worry for now. This will happen to you for the next few months at least if you are new.
