Does anyone have any info on the BJJ scene in Scranton, Pa? I know there is a Royce Gracie Affliate that I think is run by a purple belt and I believe there is another school run by a blackbelt named "Tatu". Does anyone have any more info on these places, like schedule, tuition, vibe, etc?
Thx

Rogerio Taborda is a multiple PanAm Champion along with many other accollades. He is the real deal, but the classes are focused on Gi. He is a very technical guy and a great teacher and he is a product of Rickson Gracie. There are like three other BJJ schools in Scranton, but I have no experience with them. Hope this helps.

Oh by the way, Rogerio is "Tatu." I think they train every week day, but I don't know his schedule. I know he does privates as well.

Dont know if this is still a live thread, but I go to the Royce Gracie School in Scranton. Even though it's run by a purple belt, there are a lot of great oppurtunities. In November, Royce came up for a weekend seminar. It's 60 for a month, but its well worth it with 7 days of training (Gi, No Gi, Submission Wrestling, and MMA).

Train with the best.

I know a purple belt named Dwight that lives in Scranton, so there has to be a good gym in the area.

Yeah, check with Dwight K. Schrute. I've seen him fight before and, though unothodox, he's got skillz.

I think Dwight also offers nunchuk lessons to help round out your skills

it's a pretty good class, A LOT of bear attack scenarios. he offers private lessons but you have to go out to the beet farm for them.

know by chance if his cousin still offers private wrestling lessons?

I see one of the Scranton guys is fighting in battle fc in Fredricksburg?

What school does Tatu teach at? It seems like there's 4 affiliates all run by purple and brown belts.

I might be interested in attending a BJJ school close to Lake Ariel, PA. I'm not sure if I'm going to stay(or be able to afford to) in New York.

Tatu teaches at the one in Scranton on Cedar Ave....but he does have several affiliate schools now and some starting to form.

In case anyone is looking in the scranton area just wanted to say that Jeff Reese and James Simrell are now both teaching at Scranton MMA. You can find all the info on the site.

There is indeed a Royce Affiliate in Scranton. I was in Scranton for a week of work and visited. Its head instructor is a 4 stripe brown belt under Royce. He is assisted by four other Royce Brown belts and 6 or 7 Royce Purple belts! The academy is HUGE. Tons of mat space, a boxing ring, a crossfit gym, an indoor running track ,showers, and a cage. Ridiculous! I trained in the evening and there were 40 to 50 people on the mat every night. Awesome instruction, great sparring, and nobody was a dick to me. They took me right in as if they knew me forever. HIGHLY recommend this place. website is scrantonmma.com and Im pretty sure they are on FB.
