Starting February next year, I will be traveling around the world to train and compete in BJJ. I hope to meet a lot of people and get a lot of good experiences out of it, but it all depends on getting help and inspiration from the BJJ community out there (you! ;)).

Check out my blogfor the trip (in its early stages) and feel free to contact me if you can help me out in any way or have some good ideas of where to go, what to do, where to compete etc along the way :) I have no plans for the trip other than just jump right into it, make it up along the way and see where it takes me!

    BJJ Globetrotter

Hope to hear from you :)

Have you trained before? If so, what belt are you? Under who?

Any other experience? How are you financing this?

All of those things would be nice to know if you want people to read your blog.

the website says he's a brown belt from Copenhagen, Denmark
Destinations: France, Romania, Moldova, Bali, Japan, Oregon, Los Angeles, Colorado, Georgia, Washington, Maine and Panama.

I guess my advice would be to start locally. The reason being that you will learn a lot if you do a big, long tour like this and your learning is likely to be incremental (or possibly exponential). So, you will always be able to return to the local schools ... or at least easier. That said, I'd start local and go farther and farther away as you progress. I'd finish in Brazil.

This is also assuming you don't get injured at some point during these travels and have to miss training.

All of these things are explained in details on the blog - read "About my trip" and "Biography" :) For more about my experience, check out my other blog: www.ShogunHQ.com

Regarding financing, I will use money

You should take a buddy to tape it and then try and get your money back by selling it to a TV channel.

I don't know about how realistic it would be to bring one person along for the whole trip, but I have definitely considered bringing a videocamera to make some kind of documentary along the way. If not to sell, then just to put online as inspiration for others.

I do this sort of thing for a living and I can tell you 99% of the time it will not work. Better to just enjoy the trip and document for your own records/amusement. TV is a lot of hard work.

Christian, it's too bad you aren't coming to eastern Canada (though I understand why.) Your guys at CSA showed me great hospitality when I visited (you were globetrotting.)

    Good luck!

Yeah that's what I am thinking too. Will most likely make a mini documentary during the trip, kind of like Jeff Glovers, just a little more vagabonding-style ;)

Glad to hear you liked CSA. Nothing is settled yet regarding my travel route, but I can imagine eastern Canada would be difficult to reach if I also wanna go down to south america.

    hey christian,

I liked your side control series.

anyway, if you are going to go to renzo's take the danaher classes which i think are mon-wed-fri 7:30 classes and i think he does the classes at noon also.

and you have to go to marcelo's also when you are in nyc.

For GA, you are already planning on going to alliance so I would also say to go to buckhead for drinking-- just a lot of bar hopping there.

If you're gonna be in Oregon, check out Impact Jiu Jitsu in Beaverton.

Impact is in fact one of the first places I trained BJJ outside of Denmark. Have many good friends there and actually already planned to go there on the trip, so maybe I'll see you there?

This isn't pertaining to the thread, but when the heck can I expect a deep butterfly instructional series?!

Thing is, that I got a pretty bad knee injury in a competition back in april, that I am still having some problems with. For the deep butterfly halfguard, I wanna test it out thoroughly in competition and training before I put any instructional material out, and I haven't really been able to do so since I got the injury :icon_cry2 Getting better now though and hope to get back in competition this fall and try it out some more.

Went to Estonia for training camp some weeks ago and my deep butterfly got KILLED by two of the brown belts there, so needs some more work :icon_chee
