I'm hoping someone can clarify this for me. I've seen many BJJ black belts that have the red strip at the end of their belt. But I've also seen some with a white strip. I've also occasionally seen purple belts, etc. with the same red strip. Is this an indication of some type of instructor certification, or is there something else to this? I've heard different things.

Traditional BJJ black belts have the red strip. Some schools have an alternate white belt showing they are a legit black belt, but not certified to teach (yet). I know Caique does this Caique Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense Academy ::. I have never seen a BJJ purple belt with a red strip.

in my affiliation, the red is an instructor panel, which you can get at purple belt.

One means you're a fighter, the other means you are a teacher.....but only some schools follow that
