I also train 4-5 times a week. I wish I had the time to train 8-10 times a week! I mean who has that kind of time in their hands other than professional athletes?
I'm preparing for a naga event in October. My target weight is 180 I'm at 202 right now. I think I can make it. It will be my first tournament as a white belt.
Practitioner because I don't like competing. I force myself to do it at least once per year but I see it as a chore. I'm convinced that MA are nothing without opposition, and real opposition happens during tourneys. But deep down I dont like it. It's expensive, diet are a bummer, having a legit gi (not too short, no patchs in the wrong way) is bothersome... But I see it as a requierement if you want to improve.
Both I'd say. I'm a practitioner first, and competitor second. I get to train 2-3 times a day 5-6 days a week. I enjoy the idea of competing, but I hate competing. This year I'm forcing myself to compete as often as possible. I feel it improves my jiu jitsu more than just rolling at the gym.
I am a practitioner, a competitor, a fan, a teacher, an artist, a teammate, a therapist, a jedi, a comedian, a spokesman, and an all around bad ass nice guy.
Don't limit yourself to just two aspects of jiu jitsu.
