I just started doing BJJ when I went home on leave (in Texas) and did about a month of it and want to continue. I was going to Gracie Barra Tx , under Proffesor Vinicius Draculino Magalhaes. Due to me being Active duty im back here on Camp Lejeune and just wanted to know if anybody out there knew a decent place to train at where i could continue BJJ. Ive searched for other Gracie Barra affliates but the closest one is in Concord,Nc so thats out of the question. Im trying to look at something close by i saw some MMA places in Wilmington but its a little to far to drive due to my schedule during the week. NE ways id appreciate the help thanks alot!

There is actually a pretty well established BJJ club in Jacksonville. They compete as a team and seem fairly solid. Ask around when you are on the base, the lady who runs the club also promoted the fight that was on the base back in March. You should have no problem getting up with em.

Ya i actually already went once and plan on going again tonight. Im looking for a more formal place though, one that i can start from the groud up and get a solid foundation. At the place on base you just have to pick up from where ever they are, its nothing like Gracie Barras Academy. I mean if its the only place around here its better then nothing unitll i get out of the Marines and go back home.

Pretty sure you can do that anywhere. If its class structure and specific drill sequences you are looking for, find a purple belt in your club and tell him that's what you want. Guy's at that level and above do their "drilling" while sparring or doing position drills, but I am sure one of the experienced guys could lay out a more structured program for you and some of the other green guys.

There's Evolution MMA in Wilmington, which is run by a Brown Belt. There is Club Jiu-Jitsu in Jacksonville. You probably already went there though. The Evolution guys are awesome, we go down there sometimes.

After about a month or two of training you'll be owning all kinds of MCMAP black belt homos.

Hehehehehe. So true. Actually is hilarious cause mosdt hink they are bad ass cause they made it through a few weeks of hazing and know a few basic submissions.

lol i dont know why but that whlole blk belt homo comment made me die laughing, i completly agree. We had a regimental field day last week and one of our blk belts got completly destroyed by some tan belt...very commical to say the least especially since he was talking smack the whole time before the match. But ya ive already looked into Evolution it looks like a really nice facility but its to far of a drive especially with my schedule, cuz i dont know what time we get off and then you got being in the field etc etc. I went again to the club jiu jitsu on base not a big fan. You just kinda go in there and roll theres not to much instruction. I dunno ill probably just keep going and maybe ill hit up Evolution.

I thought you were in Fayetville? Not that Jeremy doesnt have a nice facility (Evolution) but Greg Thompson's ROC in Fayet-nam is pretty good too, now a days Billy is there alot too. Two of the best BJJ guys in NC for sure in the same place.

I know the comments on this thread are old but there are a few BJJ schools in Jacksonville NC. I owned one of them Wright's Extreme Martial Arts. It started out as a karate school. I was the first one to teach BJJ/MMA in Onslow county. I currently am a black belt in Pancrase and a Brown Belt in BJJ. I recently turned over the BJJ / MMA to mid atlantic mma. So if you find haters out there that don't like me they cant deny the talent we have now. If you are a member here you also get to train at Evolution in Wrightsville Beach and Monkey Junktion (coming soon), NC3 Athletics and with our Pancrase instructor at his gym for free. We are the only organized school with constant affiliation with Black Belts in the gym. Our affiliation is with team New Union and has been for years. 4 of the other schools in Onslow county got their start at Wright's. come check us out.
