is there any fighter in the GOAT discussions with a worse record?

No, but keep in mind Anderson Silva has
lost to opponents of a much lower calibre, even relative to Penn!

Look at the guys he fought though. He fought Machida at HW.

Numbers never tell the full tale.

Also consider the quality of opponents Penn faced from the very start. He was named the Prodigy and rose quickly through the ranks. A fought the who's who.

Its not about the record, its about the accomplishments, who he beat, what he did, etc.

Jon Jones only has 22 wins, Weidman 13, Lesnar only had 5...

Noobs need to stop looking at BJ's record and actually watch his fights...

Losses* are overrated, when your fighting the best losses will pop up here & there,

Nobody is lining up to call Weidman or Lesnar the GOAT.

BJ Penn is a legend for a lot of reasons. One of the first guys who was sick at jujitsu but would also box your face off. He won the mundials at black belt level after I believe only 3 years of training. Then he beats Heughs, arguably beat GSP, became Champ at two different weight classes. Wanted to fight only the best.
If he was around today, or on the rise i mean, people would hate his guts. "Don't fight Matt, Bj, fight at your own weight wah wah wah. BJ shouldn't be allowed to fight for the title wah wah wah."

Weidman beat the goat, and Lesnar (in terms of accomplishments) is one of the most decorated heavys in UFC history...

BJ isn't mentioned as often in GOAT discussion as the obvious nearly flawless records like GSP, Anderson, Jones, Fedor, Aldo etc. but he is probably top 10. His accomplishments are crazy despite the record.

Cain had 9 mma fights and ppl were calling him the goat

I'm not a fan of Penn at all, but his record is actually pretty great, especially if you ignore his fights after he lost to Edgar the 2nd time. At that point he was nowhere near his prime and lost fights he shouldn't have taken (Rory and Edgar 3, for example).

Penn is not the GOAT, and I personally never liked him, but let's not take his record at face value, mmkay?

Fuck context. Lets just count wins and forget about the bigger opponents BJ challenged himself against.

jones and weidman have plenty of fights left in their careers. brock was never in the GOAT discussions.

BJ arguably has the biggest balls of any MMA fighter ever. Willing to fight people much larger that him. Same cant be said for Georges
