There are a lot of educated, longtime fans on r/MMA. It's just that the sub is so massive that there are an insane number of people with superficial knowledge of the sport online at any given time.
I hope the UFC starts to post more old school fights on their channel to educate folk, talking about classics like Yan vs Sandhagen and Gaethje vs Alvarez.
For real though, I don't see the point of making fun of someone trying to get into the sport and watch older stuff. Gatekeeping a niche pseudo-sport is not the way to go if we want to compete with soccer. We were all noobs at one point or another. Unless you bought the VHS events, in which case you're probably buying adult diapers nowadays.

I was born in 2002, I got my start in watching mma by buying UFC dvds from FYE. One of my first DVDs was Rampage/Liddell. So when I hear “old-school,” I think back to that. I feel very young after saying that.
