I'm a huge Anderson fan. Following his career in MMA has been the highlight for me as a fan. And going into this fight with Bisping I was really hoping for one last highlight reel performance against a fighter that it seemed was tailor made for that to happen.
But as the fight went on, it was clear... Anderson is old. He still has flashes of his former brilliance but he often finds himself off balance, his once peerless speed has declined to a mortals pace and his once granite chin is cracking. All of the clowning and showmanship earlier in his career was validated by his success. You can talk the talk so long as you walk the walk etc.
And that's just it, Anderson can't be Anderson anymore and in the midst of it all Bisping showed all the heart and determination of someone who's entire legacy was on the line. It was clear this fight meant everything to him. After the questionable flying knee was landed in the third, I found myself pulling for Bisping. Anderson's celebration just seemed weird to me, I knew if the fight was called there people would call it cheap. So Anderson had two more rounds to finish off a wounded Bisping... and couldn't do it. And based on everything we know about scoring, there's no question that Bisping won 3 rounds of that fight.
Congrats to Bisping, Hope he gets that title shot. He's earned it.
