Opinion Bill Maher please shut up

He destroyed Ryan, too, which I think surprised a lot of people. He's looked bad so far this year, but the competition is much, much tougher. I think people are underestimating that. You have two Rhodes Scholars, a Harvard professor (who was also a debate champion in HS), a big-time prosecutor, a Harvard law grad, etc. Of course Biden's going to look a little dim in that crowd. Put him next to Trump, and he's going to look a lot better.

From what I've seen thus far, Mayor Pete has been the sharpest (in delivery of his answers)

and just for shits and giggles, I like Marianne Williamson, cuz I have no idea what she's going to say.

Still can't get over how Gabbard is both a True Progressive option and a Sane Moderate according to WR kooks of different stripes. And they never argue with each other about it. I guess CTism is the link among her fans.

Hmm.

If I’m trying to look at a trend, I think it’s being a fringe non-intervention FP candiate (in rhetoric). The people on the right that I’ve seen call her a moderate always bring up her FP positions/ military record and hardly anything else. Her green policies would be a nonstarter for those people if they just saw a candidate on paper. I don’t whether it’s her looks or it’s some type of internet bandwagon effect but it doesn’t match up. FP doesn’t seem like the consistent thread each election (RP, BS, TG).

ahoy Anung Un Rama,

sure sounds like he did;

its about 2/3 through the video. i love how Dr. Paul stood in the pocket and traded with the Neocons back then...seems like a long time ago.

hello Anung Un Rama,

makes sense. President Obama governed as centrist, despite that fact that folks here complained that he was some kind of deranged socialist.

plus, i'm sure Bill hadn't forgiven the GOP for foisting a possible VPOTUS Palin upon the country back in '08.

I like Gabbard a lot, but I don't understand why people on the right like her and hate Sanders.

hello again AUR,

because Bernie hasn't mouthed the words "radical islamic terrorism".

its not much more complicated than that.

Bill is a centrist and an Obamaphile.
Yes, he agreed w/ Dr Paul on his FP and his War on Drug positions, but not much else. And yes, it would be smart to have a POTUS with an amazing FP like his. Alas.

IGGY,

I think it also has to do with Bernie letting that black girl use his microphone. Thats a big no-no.
Ultimately it comes down to them just flailing. They voted for Trump they obviously have no idea what they stand for.

hiyo Lead,

yes, a "peace" candidate. if she was running heads up against Mr. Biden...or if she was running against GWB in 2004 as the nominee instead of Mr. Kerry, she might have gotten some traction.

its 2019, though.

Bill Maher the man who help sell Hillary Clinton now going after progressive dems. He's attacking Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gibbard, heck even Warren and he's hurting the front runners in the hopes of boosting Biden and Harris.

It gets better he claims progressive candidates will chase younger voters away. He said you don't need to redo healthcare just push to legalize marijuana for the youth vote. Like they are one issue voters that fair wages affordable healthcare an jobs will not win the youth vote.

I'm typing this as he blows out his nonsense on MSNBC. I may have some parts wrong but he is protecting the status quo an helping Trump get reelected.

No link to post he's now comparing Williamson to the progressive front runners. He is protecting his rich neoliberal executives at his network. Piece of crap.

He has been increasing terrible over time. Notice that it corresponds with him losing his edge mentally and getting just a half step slower.

The only thing I will say in his defense is that the Trump presidency and the debacle that it has been has scared him and he is acting out of emotion a little bit. This doesn't make him right but it explains things a bit.

Why would they? They could fall for the same mistake so many others make in attributing a strong economy to the work of the president but Trump hasn’t passed one thing that would improve jobs and wages on a material level. Sure, tax cuts gave the economy a sugar rush but the studies I read illustrate they didn’t do much and it was short term. Tariffs hurt the economy. So what exact is trump doing for young people?

One might argue that cutting regulations has allowed the creation of more jobs - it's certainly a fact that unemployment is down and wages are up.

And theoretically tarrifs mean American companies can "compete" with low paying Chinese companies - so again more jobs even though consumers are paying more for the goods.

Why is it our fault?

Anyone supporting Biden or thinks he has a chance is foolish.

The guy is a can. Harris is establishment. These are bought and paid for politicians with little real meat on their ideological bones.

But for some reason it is "the far left" demanding something better that is fucking everything up?

Nah, it's the limp worms like Reid and Schumer and Biden and Harris that give the Democrats a bad reputation.

Demand better.

Corporate dems need to get on board with the party. They need to unify the party and get behind popular policies like UHC, 15 dollar an hour minimum wage, going after wall street fraud, subsidized college.

Corporate dems are selfishly holding that party back and dividing it. They are being childish.

That’s theoretical and not based on what’s actually happening, though.

I think what is it is people on the far left and right primarily seeing the "DNC" as their enemy, and the far-left calls it with "centrist" while the far-right calls it "far-left." This "DNC" bears at best a minimal relation to the actual DNC and is more of a CT fiction (the group that coordinates the MSM hits, makes college students protest far-right speakers, makes television commercials show a lot of interracial couples, etc.). Gabbard's brand is against that (which makes people think they're against her), so to left-wing nutters, she's a True Progressive who is being opposed by the "DNC" because she poses an actual threat to capital and to the MIC and MSM. And to right-wing nutters, she's a Sane Moderate who is opposed by the "DNC" because of that (i.e., being a moderate).

Note that one nutter said that she "doesn't support gender identity becoming a protected class," even though she literally sponsored a bill to do just that! How does that happen? I think the CT theory explains it.

One can't argue that rationally given that job growth was continuing on the pre-Trump trajectory (slowed a bit, actually). Wage growth has actually stalled, which is incongruous with the idea that we're approaching full employment (which would be the explanation for the slower job growth). Also, what regulations are you referring to?

And tariffs don't mean that at all.

So unemployment has actually gone up during all of this? I obviously missed that news.

You don't think that's an honest response to his post, do you?

Ugh. Obviously my points are about correlation and causation here, so the sarcasm is just and annoying waste of time. Maybe I’m giving you too much credit and you didn’t grasp my point so I’ll make it clear - presidents don’t have much to do with the economy. And the tax cuts and tariffs are well understood and well studied and they’re not leading to more jobs and higher wages. You brought up a theoretical but that’s not convincing because we know what the policy is actually doing.

So going forward can you please avoid butchering my opinion? You can always just ask me.
